Long story short I received these parts from a working ego style vapor pen. The red side was connected to the USB pass thru in the metal tube which was destroyed. Obviously I'll need another housing; not a problem. But what do I need to connect to get this thing working? I just don't want to attach the wrong wires. Ill also need to now charge it with the screw on attachment instead of the pass thru, due to it being destroyed. I know someone here can help me!

It's not a matter of attaching a new battery or even the existing battery with a new charging source. If you get it wrong, you'll just have it explode all over you.

Until you can answer these questions it will be dangerous to do anything:
  1. What controls charging? The battery? The charger? Some extra circuitry?
  2. What maximum charge current can the battery take?
  3. What maximum discharge current can the battery safely provide?
  4. What limits the discharge current in the case of a short circuit?
  5. What happens if the maximum charge or discharge current is exceeded or the battery is charged beyond its capacity?
The answer to number 5 is very likely "the battery will explode violently, hurling flaming hot chemicals and metal shards across the room."

Once you have answered these questions, you will know enough to answer your own questions.

Im pretty much giving an ego style battery a new housing. Nothing more really, just reattaching the yanked out wires

Step1 Insert guts of said ego into trash can. ie new housing

Step 2
option A Pick up keys drive to store purchase new battery and charger.
option B Open new tab on browser, navigate to vendor site of your choosing, purchase new battery and charger.

Saving $10 or $20 bucks is not worth blowing you teeth out, blowing off your fingers, burning down your home, or injuring an innocent loved one/bystander.

Damn everyone's coming off as rude. I was just trying to replace the housing, if it can't be done then "ok"

I really don't think anyone is trying to be rude, our concern is first for your safety and that of your family and second because as someone said, a story floating around about someone getting injured or worse by an e-cig is bad for all of us. Even if it was completely user error, all the public is going to see is "OMG E-CIGS MELT BABY FACES!!!1".

Please just save the DIY for e-liquid or knitting a scarf, don't mess with batteries when you don't have the expertise to do so. :danger:

Wasn't meaning to sound rude. Some ideas are just bad ideas if you don't have the technical knowledge you need.

The consequences of an oops in what you are proposing can have some very serious implications.

There's a big difference between needing a bandaid and spending time in a burn unit at the hospital if things go bad.

OP, nobody is being rude, just the opposite. They are concerned for your welfare and trying to nudge you in the direction you should be traveling. This battery could do bodily harm.

If they were rude they would say, are you out of your friggin mind? Risking life and limb for a damaged battery that you could pick up for something like $13.00 (free shipping :) ) on eBay. Do the intelligent thing and throw that damaged piece of garbage away and invest in something safe.

Now that would be rude.

I do not think that anyone is trying to be rude to you. It is more of concern for safety. Also no one wants bad press about e-cigs when someone is doing something not really intended.

I'm sorry if I came across as rude; that was not my intention. You are getting jumped on by everyone because everyone agrees that modifying a lithium battery is a very bad idea.

There are plenty of DIY electronics projects that are perfectly safe. If they go wrong the most you will do it break them. Others such as using mains electricity might give you a nasty shock and blow the fuse, or destroy whatever equipment you connected to it. But this project is more dangerous than both of those. That eGo battery looks innocent and harmless, but it is full of toxic, flammable chemicals and it can very easily turn into a literal pipe-bomb. We are not exaggerating, honest; the danger is real. Even if you do everything correctly, that battery or the circuitry it contains may have been damaged by whatever accident happened to it. Then, just when you let your guard down, it could go bang and blow your teeth out, or just get burning hot and burn a hole in the carpet when you drop it. There's not maybe a 1% chance of you being very sorry you did it; it's more like a 50% chance.

Please, find another project.
