Hi all. Thought I should give a quick hello since I've been lurking in the shadows for a while now. I'm in Canada, and the ecig market here is confusing, to say the least. Christmas 2011 my mother in law came, a lifetime smoker, puffing on a v2 cig that her neice ordered from the states. I tried it and loved it. After ordering enough for my wife and I to start, and refills for her, I awaited Customs Canada to process my order. 3 weeks later I called them, and found out what everyone here knows already, they don't allow nic ecigs in if they decide your parcel is the one they open.
Over a year later, I had all but forgotten about ecigs, and resigned myself to a lifetime of smoking, or a near impossible attempt to quit yet again. Then a friend of mine comes over and shows me his joyetech cig-a-like to try, and my hope is renewed. I still knew near nothing about ecigs, and the term 'vaping' was the strangest verb I had ever heard. So after being pointed in the right direction by him I order an eRoll kit for me and my wife, and some nic juice from the same Canadian vendor he had gotten his from. I was shocked that I had not heard about it being available in Canada sooner, and was really excited to get my new smokes. I swore I wasn't quitting smoking, and my wife and I considered this no different than switching brands, which due to the rising cost here in Canada, we had done a few times to limit costs, as new Canadian manufacturers made economy brand cigarettes. Even with the 'cheap' smokes, our habit is currently a $36-48/day bite in the wallet.
So our eRoll kits arrived 3 weeks ago, and the Tobacco juice we got was fantastic, it actually tasted like we were having a cigarette. Upon further inspection, it has WTA's, and that would explain the wonderful replica it made for a cigarette. The one thing I hadn't done yet, is really any research. I went from 1.5-2 pad to 0 in 3 days. It was absolutely amazing. I started researching 'vaping', and found this place, still completely lost in the lingo.....vaping, cartomizer, clearomizer, ego, 510 threads, 808 threads, WTA's, all a mystery to me, and very hard to keep straight even when finding the proper meaning of it all. So on day 4 of vaping, and day 2 of no cigarettes, my eroll started getting really tight to draw on. My wife said she had juice coming through into her mouth, and no vapor coming from it. I was starting to notice the same tightness in the draw. So i googled. Take apart the atomizer and clean it, it says. So being the handyman that I am, i proceed to take one apart, and see all sorts of gunk in the windings....and there's so much in the head that i just pull it out and toss it.....oops....guess that was the wick....then i scrape the gunk outta the bottom and a piece of wire comes out....oops....guess that's the coil....k. So. That atomizer is completely screwed. so I do the 2nd one and do the same without wrecking the coil, still not realizing the wick is there for a reason, thinking it was gunk built up. Drop a little liquid in, put it back together and in my eroll and voila, it's wonderful again. So i do the remaining atomizers that came in our kit like this. They work fine for about 10 puffs each, and slowly they stop getting any fluid, and one actually keeps working amazingly, until I set it down and the juice leaks all over the place.
After finding and watching a youtube video of how to do it I see what I did wrong, and proceed to order new atomizers. We have struggled with the erolls awaiting new ones since then, as they either run liquid without stopping, or airlock and dont work. Having read a million posts and watching a million videos about it all, I now see the error in most of my ways. All this said, ego batteries and clearomizers, cartomizers, and the replacement parts are ordered and because of a liquid problem backordered, so ordered a quick ego twist, kanger T3 tank and some liquid from another vendor while watiting. This finally showed yesterday, and after 3 weeks, I was rolling again...only had 1 smoke last night, and I think I'm good, today or tomorrow the other equipment will be here for my wife, and we should be good to go again.
Anyways, I just thought I'd share my struggles thus far, and give some a chuckle. Thanks for having me here, and look forward to kickin the cigs permanently.
