Well, it's only 'official' to me :)

Today I installed both a new 1.5 ohm Kanger dual coil v1 coil unit and the newer style v2 dual coil unit (or is it actually the V2 and the v3?) in my little AeroTank Mini for a heads-up comparison.

Anyway, the coils I call the v1 are the ones that the tips of the wicks stick out slightly, and the v2 is the type that you can't see the wicks at all (only a couple of little elongated holes).

Well, I am convince ... when both these 1.5 ohm coils are fed 4.0v (10 watts), the v1 dual coil units that have the exposed wick ends perform better .... more vapor (I think the v1 coils are just wicking better)

Taste seems the same on both, but again, I like the vapor production with the older style coils better.

Now, which one will last the longest ... I don't have a clue.

Bonus ... The older style v1 with the exposed wick tips are cheaper too.

Just curious Flt Simulation, did your newer v2 or v3 coil have 1 large hole on each side or 2 small holes on each side?

Reason I ask is because I felt the way you did about the exposed wick coil providing a better vape. But since I purchased and used the newest coil they offer with 1 large hole on each side my opinions have changes. I know like the V3 coil with the enclosed wick (1 large hole on each side)

The newer style coils I have are the ones with 2 little slots (elongated holes) ... one on each side. They also come in a white box.

I don't have any of the later model coils that have 4 small holes (2 on each side).

And of course, the earlier coils (with the exposed wick ends) that I like the best are the long-tube type that come in the black box.

I am pretty sure that both of these types I have are authentic KangerTech.

I was getting terrible performance (dry hits) from the coils that just have the two holes (one on each side) so I swapped in one of the coils that has 2 holes on each side (4 holes total) and it's a world of difference to me. On the coils that only have 2 holes, I will usually get a dry hit if I am chain vaping by my 3rd hit, but the ones that have the 4 holes total I can chain vape on as long as I like without getting a dry hit.

I use the coils that have the wick that sticks out slightly on each side in our Protank 2 tank and to me their nothing to write home about. They do a job but even as such they can't keep up to any really hard vaping without giving them a long break between heavy vapes to rewick up the juice again. But for slow vaping they do the job they are designed to do.

So for me, the coils that have the 4 holes with the non exposed wicks works the best by far. This is using it in my AeroTank mega with a 50/50 cinnamon type of liquid.

Traijan ...

Thanks for the input.

I have never used the newer style coils with the 4 small holes ... I just have the newer style with the 2 holes (look really more like 2 elongated holes) and I am not impressed with those.

I still am happy with the coils that have the exposed wick-ends and the little silicone 'cup' just above the little wicks.

Something I didn't mention was that the style coil head you describe (the ones that we use in the Protank 2) are easy peasy to rebuild in a pinch. There has only been I think twice that it has come up where we didn't have a stash of old coils and no new coils and all the local B&M stores were already closed for the night but we needed our nic fix so I grabbed up the kanthal wire and went about building a new coil and just reused the old wick as best that I could. Was a simple affair that only took a few minutes and got us our nic fix until we could go to the B&M store the next day. I think that's actually a big positive as long as you have kanthal wire laying around in your vaping box like we do.

Plus we can't exactly take the Kangertech dual coil head from our Aerotank mega and use it in the protank 2 but we can take the protank 2 coil in a pinch and use it in the Aerotank mega so that's another plus to the coils that you like.
