It all started about 3 months ago.

I was using my vivi nova with a new pack of atomizer heads and new juice that came in the mail, and the atomizer head gave out after about a day. "Must have just been a bad head" I thought to myself, so I threw it away and used the next one. yet it happened with the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th ones... I thought that I must have just gotten a bad batch, so I order another 5 heads.. but these did the same thing, gave up the ghost after about a day. So my next natural assumption was I must have a bad battery somewhere (I have about 5 ego usb passthrough batteries), so for my next order I order 3 new heads and a new battery.... same thing, even using the new battery exclusively.

So my next assumption was the tank must be conducting power badly, or something. so I order a new tank... same thing. At this point I'm at my wits end, so I order EVERYTHING new. I order a different tank all together (the aspire nautilus), a new battery, replacement heads, new fluid (in case the fluid caused it somehow?) ... and even the aspire heads only last a day.

So finally I bought a smoktech omnitester to test the batteries and attys, and they always seem to both be where they should be. (battery output is 3.7-3.8) and I bought some wire and wick to rebuild the heads myself to save on the cost of replacing the head everyday, but this is still incredibly frustrating:facepalm:.. I dont know what I could be missing here.... Can anyone help me?!?

Juice can affect how long a coil lasts. Thicker, sweeter and darker juices will kill a coil faster then a lighter colored, thinner juice would. What juice are you putting in it. Also, have you tried soaking coils with everclear or something similar to make them last longer? You can also try dry burning them after rinsing them out. It will burn off any gunk that builds up. When I used clearos, I started a rotation. While one was soaking, I used another. At the next tank fill, I switched them. Also dry burned them. The single coil Protank coils were the easiest to maintain, as the chimney comes off so you can see what you're doing during a dry burn. You can look up dry burning on youtube to see how it's done.

Are you sure it is the Coils that are Failing?

Or could it be the Center Post of your Vivi Nova that is Not making a good Contact with your Battery?

What do you mean by the coils "gave out". What resistance did the dead coils read?

Are you sure the coil heads are screwed in tightly? Often, when you remove a tank from the battery, and then put it back on, it unscrews the coil head a bit; eventually it stops making contact with the battery.

Regardless of the juice (unless you're vaping nitric acid!) a coil should last a lot longer than 1 day.

What juice are you using? Do the dud coil heads look gunked up when they stop working?

I used to use Vivi Novas, but I never used the stock coils, went straight to building with 32 or 33AWG Kanthal and cotton wick. The only problem that I ever had was when changing/adding juice, sometimes the central tube or the atomizer head would become loose, and need to be tightened up before it would work again.

It does seem odd that even with the aspire nautilus the same thing happens, along with a different juice.

What happens when between it working and not working? I mean does the coil just suddenly stop working or is there something you do (such as refill or take it off your battery and then put it back on) in between?

@Tinkiegrrl
Thank you for your thoughts!

My thought is that those steps might make an otherwise normally working atty last even longer, but in my situation them lasting only a day tells me there is some underlying problem I haven't considered. Previously my attys would last at least a week or possibly longer before, then all of a sudden they last a day, and this has happened on the past 30+ heads I've bought. I just can't think of what has changed to get such a drastic reduction in the life of the heads.

Also, if it helps on the past few I used that burned out, when I dissembled them to rebuild, the coil just kinda.. falls apart into little bits and pieces...

@zoiDman Yes, I tried unscrewing the heads then rescrewing them back on to make sure it is a good connection, and I have had this problem with 4 different tanks.

I think something is Fundamentally Wrong. Because your Problem doesn't sound Random.

Do you have a B&M you could go to with your Set-Up? Maybe something is being Put together Wrong. And you could buy a couple of Coils from them to see if the Problem Stops.

The vapor gets weaker and weaker throughout the day, until it is producing either no vapor or just barely enough to taste but not see, at which point I replace the head.

@zoiDman B&M shop... not sure I know what that is lol

Sorry.

B&M = Brick and Mortar = A Retail Shop that Sells Something.

Hmm... Do you spend a lot of time outdoors OP? What's the temperature like by you? Could be that the coils are heating up faster and staying warm longer with summer here now. With all the changes in equipment you've tried, I'm thinking there must be some change to the environment causing the issues and thermodynamics can play a large role in vaping. If you're up to spending few more (I know, this can get expensive!) you can try giving a cartotank a whirl. I got mine from IBTanked. The carto is submerged in liquid this way, and may be less subject to changes in the external environment. I switched to Kayfuns before I really used mine in the summer though, so I can't guarantee anything. I do know that I prefered them over clearos because they required less troubleshooting for me. Once initially set up, I had less leaking, gurgling, and dry hits then with any clearo, and I preffered the taste as well. Cartos in a tank filled with liquid die a long, slow death so you get plenty of warning before needing to switch one out.

@PennyLynn I generally order all my supplies from litecigusa, and I use Dekang eliquid. the flavors I use are USA mix, Kamel, Dark (pretty much all the tobacco flavors). However this was the case both before and after the problem started.

@Tinkiegrrl I do on the weekends, but during the week Im pretty much spending the whole day in my office, car, or home. I checked out IBTanked, and I think I might give them a whirl next payday. Can the cartos be rebuilt (sorry if thats a dumb question no experience with them)? I'm actually kinda getting into that now

No, they can't. But they do last longer and are cheaper then many of the dual coil heads you find these days. If you get them from IBTanked, I'd go for the Smok cartos. They last longer then Boge in my experience. The filler is also less dense, which makes priming them go faster. Go to the complete tank section on IBTanked's website, and they'll walk you through buying every piece you need for a cartotank. You don't have to get one of their drip tips if you already have some 510 driptips from any of your clearos, however you won't want to skip the cartotank filling tool. There are carto shaped rebuildables out there, should you ever want to go into rebuilding and use the same cartotanks. Look up the Diver or the Sophia for rebuildables that will fit in the tanks.
