Looking to build my first dripper this weekend, I am looking for help on how to make a 1-1.5ohm setup, I will be using kenthal 28guage, I will be buying the ivp2 and Tobh v2.5, not sure if it is a clone or not. I need help with how big of a drill bit I will need to use, and how many wraps, and if the coils should be close the posts or near the air holes? Any input will help! Thanks in advance!

I've only been building for about 4 months now, but in my experience an ohm reader is a must have in your arsenal of tools. This way you can build different coils and safely test them before putting them on your mod. The IPV2 is a regulated device, so in theory you should be fine no matter how you build your coils as far as safety goes, however I still like to use it to get a more precise reading of your ohms. They're usually about $15-$20.

You'll probably find that you'll end up using different diameter coils on different atomizers, so there is no perfect size drill bit per say. It seems like a lot of people tend to favor a 5/64 drill bit for general purpose though. I personally have been using a small screwdriver that is just under 1/8 for my drippers with 26ga kenthal wire. 28ga will definitely give you higher resistance per length. For a dripper, I usually sub ohm, and hover between .4-.6, which is generally considered a pretty safe level. Since you are a beginner, do NOT go under .3 ohms. Remember that more wraps and smaller wire increases resistance and vice versa.

Hopefully that helps some, and others, feel free to chime in as I am still somewhat of a rookie too.

So if I do what I am planning, what will the ohm reader give me? I'm not the best with reading dual coils on the ohm reader since it is different than a single coil I'm guessing. Sorry for the newb questions

If you want right around 1 ohm, you'll need 11 wraps per coil of 28ga around a 3/32" bit. Dual coils cut the resistance in half, so you're building two 2-ohm coils.

The advantages of sub-ohm are geared mostly towards mech mod users. The lower the resistance, the more power generated by the battery. With your regulated mod, it's not necessary, as you can throw more power at your coils than a mech will allow. That being said, I still sub-ohm on my ipv3 because I like a high-powered, dense and warm vape. Welcome to rebuildables! It's a fun journey :)

You really won't know until you build it. Different atomizers will require different lengths of wire due to different positioning of the negative and positive posts. Number of wraps are a decent indicator, but the length of wire from your wraps to the posts have to be taken into account as well. Be prepared to waste a lot of wire at first. Also, the two videos I am linking are pretty handy when building coils, especially the one about straightening kenthal with a power drill.

Also, BeerGolfClouds knows his stuff he helped me figure out a newb problem last night with my IPV3 and Lemo combination. Thanks again BeerGolfClouds!

Thanks man, I aim to please ;)

Jordan, noob questions are why you're here and why we're here! Don't ever be afraid to ask anything, there are tons of people on this forum that are always willing to help. As Mr. Garrison of South Park says, "There are no stupid questions, only stupid people!". Lol

Really enjoying the feedback guys, this makes it a lot easier for me. Thanks to you all! But is it possible to build a single coil build off of the Tobh? I've seen some videos of it but not any tutorials and etc. If I do get a dual post to build a single coil, what am I looking at for wraps and drill bit size? Still going to use 28guage kenthal

Not really, you can if you're willing to block the air holes on one side. The top cap is designed to only run dual coils. And try about 8 wraps on a 2mm bit.

You can build a single coil on any RDA, but the Tobh airflow is set up for duals no matter what. You would have to close off the airflow on the side you didn't build on to get the best possible vape. Maybe a small piece of aluminum tape (available at hardware stores) over the opposite airholes would solve the problem.

6 wraps of 28ga around a 3/32" bit would get you around 1 ohm on a single coil. steam-engine.com is your friend. Check it out!
