Here's my preview of the MiD One, which is easily the most unique and advanced vaping device I've tried. I love how Janty is attempting to follow the modern consumer electronics model of offering an experience based on hardware, software, and services. Right now, two out of the three are there. The hardware needs some improvement, but keep in mind that this is a production model and the company has time to improve the final product.

This is probably going to be the most polarizing mod of 2013. There's tremendous potential here, but some people (justifiably) won't like the control scheme, which eschews an alphanumeric display for a joystick-and-LED setup. Others won't like that a PC is required to get the most out of the device.

Lots more information and impressions in the text preview.

thanks! good stuff. videos on this thing seem to still be in short supply, despite all the hype.

Thanks for watching Jonathan. Stay tuned for more video content on the MiD One and Janty. I spent some time with the company last week and will put the footage together as soon as I get a chance.

Great job. Watching your great interview with Janity now. Have any updated info?

Ah, just replied to your comment on YT, but I'll add it here for other peeps to see. The first production run happened earlier this week, so they should be in retail within the month. I'm excited to see the changes, but totally understand why people that want a more traditional setup (i.e. screen) won't be into the MiD One.

I think that is why it is called the "one". There actually is a big demand for devices with out screens. I personally would prefer a screen but a good budy of mine described the MiD one as what he wants before he knew the device was coming out.

Yeah, for sure. The MiD is a platform and Janty should have a number of devices that use it if all goes well -- including those from other vendors or modders. Considering that every device gets cloned by a Chinese manufacturer, trying to tie customers to software platform is a potentially smart strategy.

That's super interesting and I wouldn't have guessed that there's a big demand. Granted I'm only going off of forum posts, but it seems like a lot of people are down on the MiD One because it doesn't have a screen. I totally get it. It's definitely not a traditional vaping device and it's not for everyone. The issues are that it's a tough device to judge based off of previews and it's a tougher device to market. Even at brick-and-mortar stores, a demo station with a PC is needed to show customers everything that it can do. It's a powerful device, but I don't envy the job Janty marketing has to do in order to sell it.

In the ECF chat there are a couple of people that don't want screens and most of my vaping budies don't want screens too. Not sure how big of a percent in the real world that is but for me I have heard that concern alot. I have been to a handful of vapestores and they mostly use Ipads to some extent behind the counter. It will be interesting to see how many change to surface pros when the MiD one first comes out. I doubt very many.
You played with the software is it touch screen friendly? Or is it mouse dependent?

As of the latest version, I wouldn't say it's touch friendly. There are a lot of precision settings that are set with a mouse. An easy solution would be to have a tablet's pop-up keyboard appear when you're setting min/max voltage/wattage, profile voltage/wattage spikes, etc.

Hope they come out with a touch friendly solution eventually. Do you think there will be any coops for this? Not that sure on there biz modle. It would be cool.
