Help! I just bought some Ko Gen Do Japanese cotton and I can't taste my e juice. I've got the same coil/atomizer, plumeveil, and with organic cotton balls I was getting pretty good flavor. Since trying out the KGD I can't get any flavor out of my juices. I've tried all different thicknesses of wick and lengths but nothing seems to help. Tastes like unflavored nic with just a slight hint of flavoring.

Several months ago I ventured into using cotton wicks. Couldn't find anything organic locally... live in a small town. So I bought just regular ole cotton balls. Boiled a few and went to town. Loved the increased flavor and vapor production!!

On a whim I decided to try some that hadn't been boiled. No difference at all. So I quit wasting time boiling cotton balls.

I've read reviews praising this Ko Gen Do Japanese cotton... which sounds interesting and exotic... does it come with the Kung Fu grip..? ;) I was intrigued.

After reading this... I'd advise throw out your exotic stuff and go back to simple natural cotton. Sounds to me... simple is better...

Never tried the new cotton. I'll stick with my Walgreen's supplier. I just use cotton balls for a dripper when sampling juice. Have been using organic 4-ply "yarn" for 2 months now in my kayfun and like it as well.

Yep. I wonder how many folks boiled their cigarettes before lighting up. :D

I've been considering trying out some rayon but wasn't sure if it is really safe or not. I know it's made mostly with wood fibers and such but what is the other small amount of chemicals used to make it? You have a link to any good info on the stuff?

Many things we use are processed with "chemicals". That doesn't mean that the chemical is in the end product. From my reading through the thread...big props to JeremyR for his experiments and research....the big chemical in question is carbon disulfide. It is not contained in the final product which is 100% cellulose. I would recommend checking out the thread and reading through it. Be prepared....it has become quite popular with lots of pages. Anyways here is a link to the general thread.

Taste is subjective. What works for some might not work for you.

Personally, I love KGD. With Organic cotton, for the first 25+ pulls it tasted like sucking on a t-shirt with some flavor of my juice. Once I broke it in, it was fine. With the KGD I only taste my juice.

Seriously though, if you really don't like it, I'll gladly take it off your hands as I am completely out lol.

I just got a cpl pads from a buddy to try them out. I'm not ready to give up on them yet. I love how easy it is to wick and I'm sure the flavor issue is something I'm doing wrong. How do you guys wick it? Tight in the coil? Just a little resistance when feeding it thru? TIA, I really hope to get it working right.

Per sXd....

Yes, KGD (and most likely it's similar competitors) is the best cotton I've ever used.

The most important thing to remember when using this type of cotton is to not densify the wick by twisting it.

You want to start by trimming (with the grain of the fibers) a width that is the width of or just a hair wider than your coil then only twist the tip in order to thread it in - leave the rest uncompressed.

I also sometimes just gently compress it to shape it but never twist a fat piece to make it smaller (denser) to fit in the coil.

Several rules of thumb:

1. With your mod standing on a stable surface (your desk or whatever) Thread in the twisted tip and grab the end. Now take your hand off the mod as you pull in the wick. If your mod moves it's too thick.

2. If you taste any cotton, even on the first hit it's too thick.

Split the sheet in half, cut a strip slightly wider than the coil with the grain, twist one end just enough to get it through, trim the end you made pointy to get errant strands from causing issues, pull it through your coil. Then,I always trim off the little piece I condensed to get it through, I use owner super cut scissors which I already had for fishing. Great scissors. They cut excellent and are much smaller and more accurate than using a big standard pair of scissors. Wick length varies by what I am building my coil on. Lots of good advice on here. Hoping things work out for you.

Good lord, where did you find in stock kgd??? I can't help you with your issue, but I'm totally out and can't find any!! ;)

I bought mine through Amazon, but they seem to be out of the "red box" cotton. Ebay has a lot listed, but be careful with that, because some are charging $5 for just a few pads.

Barney's of New York seems to have some in stock, $12 for a box of 60 pads (I paid like $16 on Amazon as a Prime member) but I don't know what their shipping costs are.

I got KGD several months ago and pif'd the whole box minus one pad to a friend. Wasn't for me, I went back to cotton balls. Now I'm using rayon and love that stuff!

Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note II using Tapatalk.

Right now, Rayon and Tencel Top are my two favorite fibers.

I can't really tell a difference between the two, but I've only been using them for a few weeks.
