Why am I comparing these two with different capacity batteries? Because they provide almost exactly the same vape time..

Joyetech Ego-C Twist 650mAh

Pros: Nice finish and threading. Provides me with a consistent 5.5 hrs of fairly heavy vaping before requiring a charge.
Shorter length allows me to carry it in my shirt pocket with a Pro tank Mini mounted with minimal protrusion.
Performance is consistent right down to the last vape before requiring a charge. Tough as nails. I have dropped mine numerous times with no ill effects.

Cons: The variable voltage dial at the bottom is smooth and rather hard to turn. The numbers on the dial are next to impossible to read and I have to borrow some reading glasses to see the numbers.

SmokTech Winder 900mAh:

Pros: Also has a nice finish. Threading is also nice and smooth. The knurled variable voltage control is easy to grip and turn, and the numbers are printed visibly. There is even a bright red arrow on the dial to line up with the voltage marks. This I love.

Cons: Poor battery life. I usually get 5.5 hrs of fairly heavy vaping on a charge. Sometimes slightly less. Performance seems to drop noticeably about five minutes before going dead. I have not had issues with them falling apart as reported by others. One big annoyance is the button stays lit while charging. (Blinding white light) this is a problem if trying to sleep in the same room with one charging. Also, occasionally, they will flash and die hours earlier than they should. Sometimes they can be activated a few minutes later and sometimes they require a full recharge. Not handy..

Consensus: The SmokTech batteries do not perform as well as genuine Joyetech batteries of lesser capacity. Mine are working fairly well after two months but for about the same price, or less, I will buy Joyetech again next time.

The biggest drawback on the Winder, as well as the Vision Spinner and Kanger EVOD VV batteries, is that they all have an 8 second cutoff, whereas the Joye Twist has a 10 second cutoff. For the majority of people, this is not a problem, but for me it is. I vape low nic juice, so I take MUCH longer draws. With the Twist, I am fine, but on the Winder, Spinner, and EVOD VV, I always end up hitting the cutoff before I am finished with my hit. I get around this by just releasing and reengaging the button in mid-hit, but I much prefer taking one long hit and not worrying about compensating for the batteries quirks, so I stick with my Twists.

Half of the Twist batteries that I have tossed were not because they wouldn't hold a charge anymore, but rather because the threads get worn out. Eventually I can't get them to stick on the charger anymore. I used to use 510 cartos exclusively, and I switched cartos a lot during the course of the day. Now that I am using more eGo threaded clearos, I think that problem will go away.

As for the batts that stop taking a charge, I am able to get a little more life out of them by stashing them away for a month or so, fully discharged. After a month passes, I charge them fully and they seem to keep the charge better after their little vacation. I usually get a few weeks more life out of them before they start to go downhill again.

That sucks about your Smoktech Winder. usually, Smoktech batts are very reliable, and will outlast most other brands. Luck of the draw, I guess. :(

Yeah, I'm waiting for the second one to go any time as it is acting weird. When I originally wrote the review I was thinking I had had them longer but after looking up when I bought them it has only been 40 days and I split their use with a pair of my Ego twists so on average I got around 10 discharge cycles out of the one that died. The price was slightly higher than the Ego Twist 650's which last just as long before requiring a recharge. I've had the Egos since August.
