Hi!

This is my very first post. I am not a user of e-cigarettes. I have a friend though, who does.

His juice does not have a liquid nicotine. He said it's just made of water, some form of liquid sugar and cake flavoring in syrup form. He said it is not dangerous as compared with one that has liquid nicotine.

Is that true? What are the effects?

Either he was over-simplifying what the liquid is, or he doesn't know what he's talking about. 100% water will not work in an e-cigarette.

E-liquid is made of propylene glycol (pg), vegetable glycerin (vg), and flavoring agents. With or without liquid nicotine. This combination turns from liquid form to a vapor form when vaporized. The vapor is often described as just being "water vapor", but that's not entirely true.

There are no long term scientific studies on the safety of inhaling vegetable glycerin or food-grade flavoring agents. Propylene glycol has been used in asthma inhalers for many years.

Hi Maplewoo,

There have been studies done on e juice but they are limited and not extensive, the industry is still relatively new. One thing is certain e juice is generally regarded as being far safer than smoking analogs. The ingredients in e juice have been and continue to be used in everyday products and there has not been one case that I know of where anyone has experienced adverse affects. Nicotine is not dangerous, it's extremely addictive but not dangerous unless you are pregnant, which could pose harm to the fetus. Also, be careful if you have high blood pressure/diabetes etc...

Thanks guys! I could not exactly recall the ingredients he mentioned. But what stuck to my memory is that his juice does not contain liquid nicotine. It contains flavoring that can be bought from supermarket shelves. So in my mind, since it does not have liquid nicotine and the flavoring is food grade, it is safer. But then again, not much research is done on the liquid flavoring.

Technically, not quite right. There are some ingredients in food flavoring that are known to be dangerous when inhaled. It is best to get those which are sold for vaping.
