As I puff away the last few days, I'm really amazed and happy with my mod that uses only 1x 16340 cell @ 3.6v:
DealExtreme: $5.50 TrustFire Protected 16340 880mAh 3.6V Rechargeable Li-Ion Batteries (2-Pack)

Good strong vapor, throat hit, and surprisingly long battery life, and compact. When I multimetered them, they seem to stay just above 4v for a while. I'm sure it's going much easier (compared to the widely accepted/used maddog 2xcr2@6v design)on the atomizer also. When I built my magnum, it fried my atomizer.
Just something to consider if you're going to DIY and are concerned about atomizer life. I highly recommend trying this configuration. Aloha!
