I was reading through the forum here and ran across the posts about exploding batteries. Frightening thoughts to say the least. Since reading the hoopla several days ago I have changed my charging habits ever mindful of the possibilities.
I slid the door off my Grand and started wondering if the AW 18650 did go 'boom', what would happen? The clearance on the door to body is very close and given the materials used I don't see much damage occuring. The door may buckle and even come loose, but the majority of a blast would most likely destroy the juice bottle and send the contents with battery gas out the squonk hole. The heart attack would be a possible by product from the noise, but little damage to the Reo. I am not that worried. What about you??

Hi Zapatengo -- right after the story about the man whose ecig exploded was reported, someone stated that they were glad that the REO has a big old squonk hole that can act as a vent.

Personally, I am happy that ROB designed the REO so that any battery failure will collapse the spring - thus reducing any major blow up! :thumb:

NO fear at all! I use the battery Rob tested and reccomended for my Grand the spring works flawlessly if you would get a short(have had it happen) Check my batterys going in to my Grand and coming off the charger. Tim started a thread about time to start retiring some of our batterys that have been in use for quite awhile. Got me thinkin and am currently doing that, so guess I'm good at this point.

zapatengo I am not battery guru but I think you will find when ecigs - mods blow its because there is no place for the batteries to vent .All of my mods as you stated have a large hole for pushing the bottle . Using the correct battery is a must if a short a cures the spring drops and breaks the connection. I do see people out there jamming over size batteries in there mods and it makes me cringe.

I can honestly say that I am not worried. I use the safest battery for each REO. The design and the safety spring give me peace of mind.

I have other batteries that have been sent to me with used REO's. I put them in just to check the fit. None have passed the test of giving the spring room to collapse. For the life of me I can't understand how some people use them. All I can say is - Not in MY REO's!

I'm not one to worry much. I think I have the safest mods out there with the REO line.

I have decided I don't need to stack batteries for 6v. The single AW batt serves me well and I have two of the best chargers out there the Pila. I take care of my batts and check them often for proper voltage when they come off the charger.

I have enough batts that they "rest" after a charge before I use them and I think thats safer as well.

I will stack again when the VV woodvil heads my way and that will be AW IMR 18350 batts.

I learned a long time ago to be careful and after that not to worry.
If you worry to much you will either not do as many fun things .... or worse yet not have fun while your doing them.

Ya, I've seen pics of some very long batteries stuffed in Grands before. Not good.
But some people just don't care (until bad things happen)

People are out there driving with bald tires and squeaking breaks with their fenders flapping in the wind.
Thankfully buying a proper 10 dollar AW IMR battery is a lot cheaper security than fixing all that stuff.
