I know this is obvious, and everyone already knows it. But I wanted to re-hammer it in everyone's brain: KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN!!!!!!!! I spent several hours in the ER last night because my toddler got ahold of my e-juice. There was lots of vomiting, poison control was called, etc. They kept asking me questions that I didn't have answers to, and it was really frustrating. They asked how much nicotine was in it, and I said it was 18mg strength, but that's not the answer they were looking for. They wanted to know how many mgs were in a serving, and how much a serving was. I didn't have a clue.

He's fine now, if you're wondering. They just kept him for several hours for monitoring, and then sent us home. He's his normal happy self this morning. Unfortunately, I'm sure this event was reported somewhere, and will possibly be used as amo for the anti-e-cigarette people:unsure:

A good reminder for everyone. I'm sorry that happened, but glad he's okay.

Yes, I'm very sure this can be used in the argument against electronic cigarettes. Other forms of nicotine are dangerous as well, but maybe not quite as appealing, except for gum maybe. I keep my juices and nicotine locked in a cash box. My kids are a little older, but my daughter is the type to mix up and play with anything (I went downstairs late last night to find her mixing up Vaseline, sugar, and peach flavoring. No idea what that was all about.)

For future reference 18 mg really means 18 mg/ml or 1.8% nicotine.

Again, glad your boy is okay. I'm sure that must have been terrifying for you!

I'm so glad your little boy is OK!

And this is a very, very good warning, bears repeating. Click on the DIY Liquid subforum and read the permanent notice they have plastered along the top...granted this refers to nic juice for those that mix their own, but still:
DIY E-Liquid

Also keep it away from your pets, as well as your children. No kids here, but three dogs - I keep my vaping stuff in a secure drawer, just in case.

Sorry to hear about this. This goes for all dangerous products but you really do need to get locks for poisons when your kids are very young. Including your household cleaners, guns if you have them, matches, even some kitchen knives and so on. Cabinet locks can be purchased at wal-mart pretty cheap and are easy for adults to use and open without children being able to get into them. You might find that easier than say a lock box where you'd constantly need to remember the key to open etc. These install pretty easily and really are very cheap especially considering ER co-pays. Thank god it wasnt more serious.

Thanks for the info. It would have been good to know last night, because I just sounded like a bumbling idiot. They kept asking me the same question in different ways, but I really had no idea what 18mg meant in terms of volume. Also, how old is your daughter? The Vaseline, sugar, and flavoring sounds like a modified lip gloss recipe. I remember reading teen magazines when I was younger, and a few DIY beauty products articles suggested mixing Vaseline and pixy stix candy.

How terrifying for you! I'm so glad he's ok. When my oldest was little, a neighbor's teenage (idiot) daughter fed him a handful of her welbutrin, and we spent a horrible day and night at the ER with stomach pumping and force fed charcoal and accusatory questions I couldn't answer, and I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. It is so scary. She never did tell us why she did it. Probably just to see what would happen.

I keep all my eliquids and other supplies in a locking train case originally designed for organizing and keeping make-up in. It's really handy, because when you open it, the drawers all fold out neatly, so you can see exactly what you've got, more or less just like a tackle box, but with the bonus of a) having a keyed lock, and b) being a pearly pink color that no respecting boy/man would be caught dead fishing with. It's perfect for me.

She's 9, and turns out that's exactly what she was making. I found her applying it to her brother a few minutes ago. I should tell her about the pixie stix idea. Her head will explode.

I'm so glad he's ok! I can imagine that was terrifying! +1 for the keyed lock cosmetic case, that's what I use too and its super handy! Thanks for sharing your ordeal, I can't imagine how difficult the trip must have been for you, but it brings to the table a very important reminder that can't be said enough.

Glad to hear everything is ok. It's always scary to have a child visit the ER for any reason. I store everything vaping related in locked boxes so my kids can't get into anything. I hope your message gets across to others that need to change how they store their vaping supplies. Your incident could help others, so maybe something good can come out of this.
