Hey'all!
My name is Sadie.. I've been lurking around these forums for the past couple of weeks, reading up on just about everything I can get my fingers on, and figured I'd pop out of the woodwork to introduce myself.
Admittedly, I do have an ulterior motive.. newbie questions...
*Queue the scary music*
But first, I may as well fill y'all in on why I'm so interested in electronic cigarettes. I quit smoking tobacco about four years ago now.. hit the legal age to buy them and the thrill went away. Well.. that and the whole not being able to breathe, smelling like an ashtray, spending every dime to my name thing. But I never really got over the good things that I found in smoking. The time out, the social aspect.. basically everything but the bad stuff! Electronic cigarettes seem to offer the things I liked about smoking, without that stuff I didn't (tentatively speaking.. I'm well aware that no long or short term studies have been done, that they are finicky devices, can be horribly frustrating, and can drive one into what I call a collector's mania. But that looks like so much fun, that I can't leave it all to you guys!)
Now, while I would occasionally take a few puffs for the fun and leisure of it (and some of those flavours look damn near irresistible!), the main reason that I'm looking into electronic cigarettes is for the stage. I do a lot of performing, in a variety of different styles and roles.. some of which call for the use of a cigarette (you try playing a 50's Greaser who doesn't smoke..). I've tried using an unlit analog, painted pens, herbal cigarettes.. I've even used lit analogs when I really want the right look, and ended up nearly coughing my lungs out on stage. But nothing quite cuts it.
Electronic cigarettes look like the perfect prop.. they can look like a cigarette, to the point of lighting up like one. The vapour looks one hell of a lot like smoke to me, from what I've seen. The only thing that would be amiss would be the lack of smoke trailing from the end of it.. but that's no worse than any of the other things I've used to approximate a cigarette.
Now that I've hit you all with a wall of text.. on to the fun stuff!
I've looked at a number of different models of electronic cigarettes.. I need something that looks fairly akin to a normal cigarette that can produce a fair amount of vapour. This lead me to look at the RN4081 (specifically, the Peewee from Puresmoker), but I've found both good and bad things about it on this forum. On one hand, it's ranked as the least favourite device on a poll, and on the other looks to be fairly well liked by a select few. Are the main complaints regarding it's battery life and cartridge size, or is there another sizable flaw to it?
I've also been looking at the M401 (the Pilot from Puresmoker). But the other draw to electronic cigarettes for me is the variety of flavours. It seems to me that the most convenient way to try different flavours would be using the drip method, which I've heard is more difficult, and more likely to cause malfunction, with the M401's exposed atomizer compared to an enclosed design. Any opinions on that? How inconvenient is it to use cartridges to test new flavours, bearing in mind that I was never a heavy smoker back when I smoked, and doubt I'd become one with an electronic cigarette?
My third question is regarding juices.. Since I've already kicked the nicotine habit (and no offense intended to those who enjoy it.. it just isn't for me), I'd like to stay away from juice with added nicotine. But all of the sample packs that I've found seem to only be available with nicotine added to the mix. Are there any vendors out there who offer a 0mg nicotine sample pack? Or would I be stuck with crossing my fingers, ordering larger bottles, and hoping I like the flavours?
And one last question.. throat hit. I'm not too sure that I'd like a heavy throat hit.. how do the devices I listed before (the RN4081 and the M401) compare as far as that goes? Are there any devices you'd recommend as having minimal throat hit? I know that it's kind of a strange request, seeing as most people here seem to be after a heavy hit. Does the hit have more to do with the liquid, or the device?
Sorry for the novella.. I'm notorious for running on and on once I get going. But I'd be very appreciative of any help!
Thanks a ton!
