Just got my first Cartos, having issues, help please

Ok so I just got my first cartos...I have a Riva 51 from LF and bought these cartos from altsmoke since i read somewhere they have Boge carts and I guess those are highly regarded...so here is my issue...

I bought them unfilled, I did the cap filling method till a little juice came out of the mouthpiece.

I go to vape...it works I guess but:

1. it quietly "crackles" a little when using...Is that normal

2. It KILLS the taste...not one tasty hit...it doesnt taste burnt like when you have a dry atty...it just takes away all the flavor and puts a weird taste I really cant describe but dont like!


So whats the deal...I saw in the videos you dont have to let them sit after filling...what am I doing wrong?

I don't fill them that way (I fill them as intended) and I clean them up and do let them lay on different sides for a while. BTW - Did you get standard or LR?

I'm only using standards so far (saving the LRs for when I go to 0mg). They seem fine to me.

I don't use the condom method. I angle the carto, drip juice down the side, shake, repeat until the carto is saturated but not pulling on top.

Sometimes it takes a while to get them going. Or, you just don't like the vape with cartos. Many people don't. I'm the complete opposite. I kept hearing about dripping, tried it and hated the taste. To me it was sort of a hot, chemical taste. (Sorry drippers!) Carts were a little better to me than dripping but not much and a PITA. I happen to prefer cartos.

Good thing there are tons of ways to do this!

So should I pop the top off and add some drops that way? Lame, I saw everyone excited about the condom filling way and thought it was just as good, yet easier.

As for "maybe you just dont like to vape with cartos"....I doubt thats the answer...i mean there is NO original taste, I cant see how anybody would prefer this way if my experience is the norm...

I just popped of the top and added some juice that way, rolling it around....i will let you know soon the results, thanks

I too prefer cartos and I mostly use the 45 degree angle drip the juice in method. Easier for me. I condom fill sometimes. I'm like swedishfish, as I do not like dripping or carts and attys.


Oh. And the crackle is totally normal.

I wasn't trying to be nasty or snarky!! Maybe you just don't like the taste of cartos. There are a lot of vets around here that seem to hate them. It scared me off a bit when I started because I just couldn't get the hang of dripping or filling carts. I've been doing this three months and still can't fill carts that well.

Because of all the negative stuff I read I didn't have a lot of hope with cartos but I ended up liking them.

I don't know if there was ever a poll done but I bet more people don't like carts than do. That's why there seems to be a new kind of cart coming out every day.

The silver lining is maybe all those flavors that other raved about yet I found WAY too sweet will taste ok now...lol

So pull of the cap and drip down the sides is the BEST way to do it?

It is for me. I drip until it starts to pool on top, then shake it like a thermometer. When it seems to all be absorbed add a few more drops.

You will get that crackle at first. I sorta like when it does that!

I wonder if you have a bad cartomizer? If you hear that sizzle noise it seems like it'd be OK.

i dont think so...Im getting vapor and its getting better...just not as tasty as dripping....but I dont want to look like a crackhead at parties dripping...id never get laid again

I tried dripping but I liked the flavor from the cartomizers better (to each their own I guess). I have been using cartomizers pretty much exclusively for about 1.5 years and have tried all the filling methods. To me all the filling methods result in the same taste; therefore, I use the condom method because it seems the easiest. It may take some time to get use to the flavor difference between cartos and dripping.

Note: I use 100% pg juice

Yeah. VG = more vapor but less flavor
PG = more flavor but less vapor

I use 50/50 or 60p/40v. 70p/30v seems too harsh for me.

Alright! making progress! Thank you swedishfish for the "drip down the sides" recommendation! From that other thread I posted I used the techniques of ligetly blowing in cato when it starts pooling at the top to help it go down and get absorbed...once I did that and recapped it I shook the hell out of it.....not dripping flavor yet but MUCH better!

I'm a huge carto fan but in fairness, I've never tried the drip method on an atomizer. Like others here, I pop the soft cap and fill it by dripping down the sides until the filler is saturated. Easy to top off while vaping too if it starts to taste funky. If you start getting a burnt taste top it off and don't burn it up otherwise you'll just wind up throwing a carto away because you'll never get rid of that burnt taste. I use low resistance Boge cartos and love them...but...I was in love with RY5 from FSUSA when I used my mini cig but on the LR cartos it tastes like .... Maybe to much heat? I've got a full bottle of RY5 so I'll wait to try them on some regular cartos on of these days.

Some carto's take a few hits to "break it in." The flavor and vapor production will increase. The first time I bought a dual coil cartomizer, I couldn't figure out why I read good reviews. After about 10 minutes of trying to get a decent vape, they really blossomed.

Can I change the filler material for better results? I might have read something like that but was confused. I already have blue foam to try this with if it is possible. A link would be fine if possible instead of somebody having to explain it all again
