Ever since I lost the last of my family (long sob story with 2 dead and 2 backstabbers  ) I have been smoking. I started out with cigars and have since moved on to pipe smoking. The cost is not the issue since I use cheap tobacco and only spend about $3 a week on it to burn 3 to 5 bowls a day, but the physical toll and the fact that I am a minister who is forbidden to smoke by my bishop means that I have to quit asap.

I found a DSE601 for $70 including shipping and ordered it. It arrived this morning and I have hardly put the thing down all day. The smoke is good and thick, but inconsistent. I will be trying the straw mod to try to remedy that, but my taste buds are so far gone that I cannot taste the smoke at all except for an occasional slight sweet taste. Also I can feel no nicotine at all, even from the "high" cart that came with it. This bothers me since I want a bit of nicotine to keep the desire to go back to my old pipes away.

Over all, I am quite pleased with my purchase. The larger part of my addiction is the action of pipe smoking and the 601 satisfies that perfectly.

By the way, is it normal for e-smoking to leave a greasy feeling on the lips and in the mouth?

Excellent! I haven't tried the pipes, but I've been tempted...

That "greasy" feeling may be what some describe as "waxy", and yes it is associated especially with one of the ingredients in most e-liquids: VG, or Vegetable Glycerine. For most people, it goes away after a bit. If it continues to be a problem after a couple of weeks, you may consider ordering liquid that has less of it. A little experimentation may be needed to find out exactly what ingredient is causing the problem for you.

Also, you should be drinking a lot more water than you used to. There are a couple of reasons:

1) vaping dries you out, because the stuff that makes the vapor is actually absorbing the water from the environment. It's getting it from the air you are inhaling/exhaling, and that causes YOU to lose moisture in the process.

2) Even though you are still using nicotine, you will probably still experience some type of withdrawal symptom(s). Drinking plenty of fluids is known to reduce the severity.

3) It's good for you!

4) It will help reduce that "waxy" feeling.

Welcome to the forum Rev.

I also believe (it has been discussed a lot on another forum) that vaping is not a one for one equivalent to tobacco burning. I personally have to vape about 30-40 long slow draws to get the equivalent to one butts (7-8 draws) worth of satiation.

I don't use a pipe, but you may need to pick up a spare atomizer bowl after a while (before yours kicks the bucket). And some juice to re-fill your cartridges.

I just convinced myself to purchase a KR mini pipe a few moments ago. When it gets here, the 601 will probably be my "dress bowl" and the mini will be the "everyday casual" since it is user maintenance friendly and the 601 is not. When the 601 dies, I already have plans to yank all the guts out of it and build another out of the shell of this one.

My father smoked a pipe while I was growing up, and recently quit. He still uses the lozenges about three years later, and I have thought about showing him the e pipe. I think he might enjoy it, as so much of vaping is similar to pipe smoking.

Also, you can kill an analog in 7-8 drags sanfordf?!? Did you get a lung transplant from a blue whale at any point by chance? :D

I got my dse601 about 3 weeks ago now, and use it quite often while reading (I'm a literature major so I read quite often). I tried a few mods on the carts due to a similar problem, but found that the easiest thing for me was just dripping. I use traditional carts (with high ping mod), and just started cartomizers (wanted to test them to see if they would work for my dad), but dripping seems to be the best solution for my dse. I put 5-7 drops in right onto the atomizer, and that will last me for half an hour, and sometimes longer. It works well too because the flavor tends to disappear in the time it takes to get from the cart to the mouth with the dse, and dripping seems to work for this.

Okay, LOL, maybe 10 drags before I put it out. I still consider it to be about 1 mg of nicotine smoked out of the 9-10 mg total in the whole cig. Which, by no coincidence, is the most efficient nicotine delivery method, that millions of research dollars and modern chemistry, can produce for consumers to 'enjoy'.

Hey Rev,

Look under the General Discussion heading for the "model specific discussion" threads and you'll find one designated for the 601 pipe.

I'm a 601 user and I love it. The big cart, the big battery, but I'm on my second pipe now only after 2 months. They usually don't last more than two months. But I'm a heavy, almost chain vaporer, so I suck a lot of life out of the atomizer more than some might.

I vape menthol because of the bigger taste it gives me. I wasn't a menthol cigarette smoker, but the menthol seems to give me something I wasn't getting from the tobacco flavors, actually, none of the juice really taste like tobacco to me.

I have read that the 601 is not the best choice for dripping, although some say they have no problem with it. But the atty floods easy and runs into the bowl and then gunks up the inhale micro switch and it gets stuck either off or on.... there can be problems. I just re-fill the carts as they get low on juice. Just be careful not to over-fill the carts - you want the atty to be wet, but you don't want to drown it. That causes the leakage problems.

The original E-Pipe, from what I can gather, is the Ruyan brand e-pipe. It's a lot more expensive - in the $200 - $300 range, but they say it doesn't have the leakage issues that the 601 has and therefore last a lot longer - some say they've been using theirs for over a year with no problems. It's almost identical to to the 601 to look at, but I hear it's a better quality pipe. At $70 every 2 months, that can add up. So I bought a Ruyan but have not received it in the mail yet. But I do keep a spare 601 bowl handy at all times!

Have fun and enjoy!

Ed.

2 months or so eh? That should give me enough time to figure out what kind of atty will fit down the tube of this monster of a pipe. Is that what is referred to as a mod? If that is common, then this should be right up my ally. I am into steampunk and love to do modifications to things to make them more unusual. I know absolutely nothing about how to build one of these things yet, but there seems to be a wealth of knowledge here that I can tap into to prepare myself for the inevitable. Since my mini pipe has already been ordered, I should be able to take my time on the mod and get it right rather than rush it to get back to vaping again. Now that my post count is high enough, I am browsing the rest of the forum, including the dse601 pages.

I loved my pipes, and my cigarettes.. (and my cigars, and dip) I was just a nicotine ....., LOL

I keep looking at the 601, it looks so nice, and I miss my pipes a lot.

I got my first E-cigarette 32 days ago. I had a pack of smokes, and a (well) stocked 125 cigar "cabinet" style humidor.

When I got my 510, I didnt smoke an analog. Didnt want to.

A week later, I gave my humidor, and its contents (*sob*) to a good friend who also smokes cigars

A couple days after that, my pipes went to a collector / friend of mine.

I still have the half pack of cigarettes tho, and my snus.

That may help you. Snus (the real Swedish stuff, not the crap they sell here) is mild, but strong, good tobacco flavors, good nicotine, spitless, and many, many times less harmful than smoking (Pipe, Cigar, or otherwise)

With my e-smoking tho, I really only do a pouch of snus once every couple days now, just when the want of a smoke, or a pipe gets really bad.

Theres threads on this (and Im sure other) forums discussing the "other" effects a tobacco product has on our bodies (MAOIs in the tobacco) somethign Vaping just cant produce, but a pouch of snus can.

If it keeps you from your pipes, you might consider trying a pouch of snus. northerner dot com, or buysnus dot com are good sites to check out, but even a tin of the Camel snus sold here, might give you an idea. They really kill the odd craving for a smoke, that vaping hasnt done yet.

My half pack of smokes still sits there tho. I'm pretty sure they're stale by now.

Best of luck, and try everything.. Whatever it takes to keep you off smoke.
