My Daughters dream gift for Christmas is a Laptop.

My experience is that Windows is so darned resource intensive that you can't' get decent performance with a laptop for under $600.00. Not in my budget. So then I started researching Chromebooks.

I came across this model
HP Chromebook 14-q070nr WWAN 4G
Still available here very hard to find at retail price, this notebook is so hot it's being sold at a $75.00 premium elseware.
HP Chromebook 14-q070nr WWAN 4G (ENERGY STAR) | HP® Official Store

With this notebook Chromebook has come into it's own.
First a 14" monitor, 2nd 4gb of Ram. Turns out that the extra 2gb of ram make a huge difference. If you go to amazon and look up the reviews on this notebook and look up the reviews elseware. The system screams.

Finally it has 2 years of free 200mb per month t-mobile wireless services for free.

Now what is true and what is false about Scroogled.

True- Google is too invasive of privacy.

False:
the Chromebook is a brick when not connected to the internet.

Google docs works, the media player works so you can save movies on a SD Card or the harddrive and watch them offline. Take notes etc.

I'm outraged that Microsoft is outright lying in these commercials.

By the way I'll come back after Christmas and tell you if I feel like a Happy Camper or if I feel " Scroogled "

Reasons Why I Bought.
1. Safety- everything stored in the cloud and if there is a problem you just reboot and restores to normal
2. Performance- All the reviews are saying that with the 4gb ram this machine is fast and they can use multiple tabs. It uses the 1.4GHz Celeron 2955U Haswell based Architecture. A dog on a Windows machine but plenty to power linux or Chromebook operating system.
3. Price- Bang for the Buck with a Coupon from Retail Me not with Tax this machine cost me $370.00 in the door. A Windows Laptop costing $370.00 would have been a dog.
4. Price 2- I don't have to spend money on Anti Virus Programs and I'll save tons of time from not always having to be maintaining the system
5. Price 3 - All the necessary apps like google office are free.
6 Battery Life- My daughter plans to use for school and everyone is saying that the battery lasts in real life an easy 8 or 9 hours
7.The 2 year free t-mobile 200mb data. help her if she is in a pinch.
8. So many positive reviews 15 reviews on Amazon 5 stars with 1/2 of the users Amazon Verified Purchases
9. Styling- It comes in 3 colors and the styling is very contemporary. Quite suited to a teenager.
10. The look of Joy on my daughters face on Christmas, when she opens the box and sees a very stylish notebook.

It will remain to be seen if this laptop is as good as purported, I suspect this Notebook is the harbinger of more advanced Chromebooks that will give Microsoft a run for there money.

Microsoft just confirmed this with there unscrupulous lie campaign

If you find the chromebook not up to task, you could always try out a Google Nexus tablet and a Bluetooth keyboard.

Very cheap compared to other tablets with the same hardware because it's stock android without all the OEM bloat and will last her a long time because it won't be obsolete in two years.

My girlfriend's Nexus 4 cellphone scores higher than newer phones like the Galaxy S4 and HTC One on benchmark tests. The new generation of N7 tablets are complete beasts. Nexus devices are great.
