Hi - Total newbie here and hoping I'm posting in the right place. I've bought a Playboy EC and 18mg liquid (that's all that you can get here - small town in South Africa). I'm currently smoking 40+ real cigarettes a day and hoping that vaping will help me to stop. I've had a couple of puffs of the vape so far but not sure whether I should use vaping to cut down first or try and go cold turkey. Is it dangerous to vape and smoke real cigarettes at the same time? I'd really appreciate some suggestions before my lungs conk out entirely.

Where you least expect it....
Welcome to ECF! Congratulations on your choice to try e-cigarettes. If you don't mind me asking, what is the nicotine strength of your e-liquid?

Since you are smoking 40+ cigarettes a day. Then I would suggest you starting out with either 36mg or 24mg strength e-liquid. In addition, you might want to consider something other than a cig-a-like since that might not be strong enough to help you transition. Also, the battery has a short life and may not last long enough for you.

Many members do both. If you want to use e-cigarettes to slowly decrease your consumption of cigarettes. Then that's fine but please use caution as possible nicotine overdose is possible. So, be aware of what your body is telling you and look for signs such as dizziness.

I'm sure others will give you useful information that can guide you on your journey.

Thanks very much for answering so fast with advice! I'll try and see if I can buy the 36mg e-liquid online. What EC would you recommend? This one has a little battery charger and a screw on glass tank with a button to push to vape. Sorry if I'm sounding silly - just totally clueless.

Hi JoR and welcome aboard!

I used vaping to cut down, and was smoking 6-7 cigs/day for a while, then 3-4/day. I'm currently enjoying my 19th day of no smokes, so it is possible to do it that way. Many others here are doing the same thing. As Unforseen said, just pay attention to what your body is telling you. Other signs of nic overdose are nausea, headaches and hiccups.

A good setup would be something like an iStick 30 wtt (or 50 watt) with an Aspire Nautilis Mini.. There are other good setups out there, and I'm sure others will stop by with suggestions. The setup you have is fine for now as long as it helps you either cut down on the cigarettes or quit. It will also be good as a backup device so that you can vape while your other device is charging should you decide to get another setup.

Hope it helps and Happy Vaping!

I vaped and smoked for quite a while but once I upgraded to a decent mods cigarettes actually tasted like crap and gave me headaches so it made it quite easy to quick. It was when I had a ....ty little ego that I was smoking and vaping but when I upgraded to a 30w, no more cigarettes or cravings. If you really want to quit everything I would highly recommend you make your own juice. Also saves you money in the long run. Another bonus to making your own juice is you can control nicotine levels. I started at 12 mg and am now at 3mg. If you really want to quite you can have a friend add the nic to your juice and tell them how many drops is your regular and tell them they can do that or drop it down by a few drops. That way you have no idea if it's 18-12-2mg. It's worked for a few friends and now they vape 0mg and sometimes don't even vape. Hope this helps, best of luck with quiting.
