I just made my first batches of e-liquid, and just wanted to say thanks to everyone for being so helpful with getting started.

I started slow with just two 5ml bottles of single flavorings (apple and plum, both @3%), and while they taste pretty good now, I can't wait until they've steeped for a while! :)

I learned that PG is pretty slippery on nitrile gloves, and I also learned I need more blunt-tipped needles to prevent the need to stick the syringe directly into the bottle(s). I only had a couple of them and wanted to make sure the nicotine was added with a needle. That, and my goodness VG is viscous on it's own!

It feels pretty good to make your own juice, let me tell ya. Once I get a few more single flavor batches under my belt, then I'll start getting into more complex recipes. I figure I should crawl before I walk...

Thanks again to all of you. I know you already know this, but ECF is a fantastic resource for everything vape related.

VG will go up a 14 gauge needle, but slowly. Warming up the VG first will help, and if the bottle is full enough, you can just use the syringe with no needle. You can pour the VG into a shallower container first, but then you have to transfer the unused portion back into its bottle.

Danny - I have a 50ml graduated cylinder already (thanks to your referral to MFS a little while back, actually), but I think I'm going to look into some smaller ones as well. 50ml is a little big for what I'll be working with on these initial smaller batches. :)

For smaller batches I use a 10ml syringe without a needle attached. Works great. If getting it onto the bottle is an issue I have a few large mouth bottles I received VG in that I saved and keep refilling.

10ml syringe is a good idea, and I'll add a few to my next MFS order. Before that one is made, I think I'll be ordering from Bull City vapor for more flavors.

Any favorites you'd suggest for single flavorings? I'm shying away from tobacco flavors, and am looking for something other than fruits for now since I have a number of those.

I buy larger bottles of pg and vg and pour some of each into 500ml mason jars for working with.
I find the wide mouth makes it easy to get the syringe into the liquid and usually use a 10ml syringe with no needle for the vg (I generally mix 30ml bottles for recipes I know).

The most important things to remember are to have fun and above all be patient when things go wrong.

I have quite a few mason jars here at the house, so I think a couple are going into the dishwasher tonight! I'm pretty sure I can tell the difference between PG and VG at a glance just by sloshing the bottles, but just in case I think it's time to dust of my label maker as well. Thanks for the idea, Raztax.

-Way to go, Loco! :) Now comes the fun part, which is finding what works for you for your go-to vapes. Taste is incredibly subjective, so no matter how much good reviews you may hear about a particular recipe or flavoring, it is no guarantee that you will like it. But once you find what you are looking for, DIY is easy, rewarding and SO much cheaper. Custom blends mixed by you & for you is why DIY rules. Anybody that says that they know what you should be vaping is either delusional or has a business interest in a vendor. :2c::vapor:
