Just picked up my first box mod... a couple of questions.

Hello,

This is my first post on ECF, so apologies if this isn't the right place to post something like this.

I recently made the switch from a mech mod to a box mod, a IVP Mini 2 70w. I enjoyed the mech mod and it's simplicity, but I wanted to try something else, especially after reading some reviews of the Mini 2.

Thing is... I am not really sure what to set it at. I've tried a few different settings, but I swear the flavor isn't as good as it is with my mech mod. I am using Gremlin juice Apple Pie, 50/50, 3mg in an Aspire Atlantis tank. Coil is new-ish, less than a week old as of now.

Maybe it's just in my head, but I swear the mech mod makes the vapor taste better. Am I doing something wrong? I settled on (around) 26 watts, any higher and it tastes a bit burnt, any lower and there isn't much there at all.

Can anyone share some experience with me, and maybe point me in the right direction? I sure love the look and feel of the Mini 2, but I want to make sure that I am using it correctly.

Thanks in advance for any constructive criticism.

Welcome to ECF!

The flavors of juices can change depending on how much power you're using, so it might not be just in your head.

I made the switch from mechanical to regulated mods last year. What I did was every time I placed a device on the regulated mod, I set the wattage to the equivalent of what a mechanical mod would put out. Then I would adjust upward or downward until I found my preferred vape. If you're running the .5 ohm coil in your atlantis, the 26 watts you're giving it is pretty darn close to what I'd imagine a fully charged battery in a mechanical mod would give it (assuming voltage drop around .5-.6V).

Say the build is 0.5Ω then people usually use a battery in a mech mod 4.2v - 3.7v So that would be 35 - 27 watts on that resistance.
So testing on a reg between 27 - 35 watts should get you the same type of vape on the same device-build-juice.

So any difference would be in your head.
Though sometimes if you perceive a difference even though its not based in fact it can have an effect.

Pardon me, what batteries are yeah using? 20 or 30A?
Is a 50mAh mod big enough?
Been consider one.
Or does a 100 or 150 better?

30A, and the IPV 2 Mini is capable of 70w.

I'm not sure about the 100-150 question. I went with the 70 because it was a newer model and figured the extra wattage capability wouldn't hurt. I also liked the 'blacked out' look of the screen and buttons.

I think you probably mean a 50 watt mod, not 50mAh. mAh (milliampere hours) is a measure of how long the battery will last, not the power it puts out. I've never even seen a 50mAh battery, even the smallest "cigalikes" are usually around 350mAh. Pen-style (eGo-style) batteries are generally 650-1300mAh, and the high-end mods and replaceable batteries can be upwards of 2000mAh.

So, assuming you meant "is a 50 watt mod big enough?", then I would say that yes, it probably is. Many people do just fine on 8-10 watts, but some others like a little more. If you're not into sub-ohming, then 50 watts should be more than enough. I myself am beginning to outgrow my Evod Twist (eGo-style) battery, and am shopping around in the 30-50W range for an upgrade, currently.

Sorry fellas, yep maint watt.
I have a sigelei box mod that only goes up to 15w or 6v.
Not big enough for my 454 big block.
Im using panasonic 2900mAh 10a batteries running a protank.
Just getting into mechs, so I have LG H2's 35a for that & using it with a Nemesis and 454 big block.
Do have a ohms and voltage tester.
Just learning bout mech and coils etc.
Box mod probably be more to my likings.
May go with 100w version or 50w version.
If 50w box mod work, I'll go with that cause it cheaper.
What do u think best for me?
Box mod can probably run my protank safely too?
