So I bought a trident clone today, with 3 posts making it easy to re-coil it with dual coils... already had 28 and 32 gauge kanthal and 2mm silica for rebuilding the mini protank, why not try a RDA?

When I first bought it, I opened it and immediately dripped some liquid on it. Too much, it's dripping out the sides. This is not like a clearomizer, you literally just have to get the wicks a little bit wet and that might be too much for it to not leak out...

Anyway, I start trying to vape it with the coils it came with, dual coils, around 1.7 ohm... no vapor. Weird, maybe I put too much juice on it, so I keep vaping away trying to get a decent hit, nothing. I look at the coils, one is burning the juice while the other is producing no vapor at all... weird. So at some point I got frustrated and went back to the store, where they let me know they're basically going to do this until I rebuild it.

So now I'm convinced rebuilding it will solve my problems, so I take off the old coils, do my best to replicate them with the wire and wick I have, and it came out to almost the same resistance, mission accomplished. Except it's still having the same problem. So I wrap another set of coils, drop them in and the resistance is a bit lower, around 1 ohm, maybe this will do it, but the same issue, one coil is firing the other isn't.

So I made a single coil setup and it fires perfect, knowing that electricity takes the path of least resistance I know that if I wrap dual coils they are not going to perform correctly unless they are exactly the same resistance. Now the problem I have is that this is not an exact science, and they're not exactly the same, and I can't get my dual coil setup to work to save my life. Am I completely doomed to single coil or purchasing replacements for dual coil clearomizers? Is there some kind of trick to setting up dual coil RDAs I missed? Or is it really just this hard, in which case I'm convinced anyone who can set up a properly functioning quad coil should be mapping the human genome or sending a rocket to pluto???

one thing is you didnt mention the battery you are using.
it is also imprtaint to rember with dual coils the power is split between two coils. at 1.7ohms total that means its (2) 3.4 ohm coils the battery has to power.

can you post a picture? i wouldnt try to make the wicks exactly like the ones that come with any clone,

one trick is to take one of the coils you know works back off the atomizer and cut two wires the same exact length then wrap them. doing it this way makes them as close as possible.

I'm using a MVP v2, and vv/vw no matter what amount of power I give it, it won't fire up properly when I wire it as a dual coil, I tried making exact replicas of the coil for each side, same size wick, same # wraps, same length wire, individual variances make it not work properly. I think I might just need more experience, as I'm having a lot of issues with the coil shorting out as well...

edit: I would post a picture but I ran over my phone earlier, sorry :\

ok here is another quick question, because i tried doing dual coil for my v2 vv/vw as well, is the resistance of each individual coil ~1.7 ohms or both coils on the head? Because if you have two 1.7ohm coils on the head the resistance is actually half that at .85 ohms and on my vv/vw it doesn't allow any resistance below 1.2 ohms, instead when you hold the button to vape it just displays the current ohms of the head. Another thing is, you want to make sure your coils are not touching the posts. The only part of the coils touching the posts should be the leads connecting to the post, not the physical coil itself.

I was wrapping micro coils in my mini protank 2 with cotton wick, but when I try to shove the 2mm silica wick into the same coil it shreds everywhere and I throw away the wick and use cotton instead. With silica wick I have to wrap the coils around it, and it sucks and it's a PITA. I'm wondering if the "hollow core' silica wick is any easier to work with, as I always hear of people sticking something into it to wrap the coil.

I keep shorting out the coil, even with the single coil build I have right now, I'm so frustrated I'm about to take it back in the morning. Maybe I'll try to do a microcoil like I do for the protank before I give up completely on this.
