So I was having a drink with a friend last night when a woman at the bar inquired about my ecig. Apparently she's been approached to invest in this company:

SNOKE - ONLINE SHOP

and was thinking it would be a great idea to have them available to customers at her friend's bar. A stylish simple unit (the marketing ploy), totally overpriced.

Hahahaha I thought the 4th picture was twilight.

"9/10 vampires use Snoke as an alternative to cigarettes, even though they can't get lung cancer! They're just that good."

Yeah, I had to remind myself many times to shut-up! I wanted to tell them how they had to do it. I limited myself to telling them how I had done it. They told me what they wanted, I suggested the Volt and a few others, praised ECF, of course, and they decided how they wanted to do it.

That's probably the hardest thing to do, and I catch myself in some reviews having to stop talking about things as if certain knowledge is assumed or there is only one right way for anything. I get so used to the way I did it and how well it worked for me and how I can't imagine having done it any other way that I have to deliberately remind myself that everyone is different and newbies especially who haven't even tried it yet may be able to take to it by different means. It's hard to take that step back and imagine having done it differently when you feel like doing it differently wouldn't have worked for you.

Mindfield, I completely agree about TH. I was going to include that as a reason against using the stick cigs w/the patch but I stopped myself because I didn't want to prohibit others from seeing the same light I saw, who might not care about TH. Yes, nicotine is what gives you throat hit but there are also ways to increase the TH using DIY methods. Extracted Capsasin Crystal, 100+ Proof Filtered Alcohol, and Menthol Crystals as well and many other DIY methods that I haven't yet learned of. But the patch + a volt with menthol juice could definitely work for me if I wanted to completely quit nicotine by stepping down using the patch. GOOD idea in my opinion. But, yes, throat hit is my #1 reason for vaping (and energy boosts/hand2mouth addiction) so Idk if I could personally do it. Even heavily mentholated juices at 0 to 4mg nicotine just doesn't have the TH I need and crave. We're in the sameeeeeeee boat.

The problem with these though are twofold:

1) Capsaicin delivers an altogether different, harsher throat hit that takes effect deeper in the lungs, adds an additional warming sensation, and significantly influences the flavour (or perceived flavour) of the liquid it's put in.
2) Both alcohol and menthol generate a sensation (either cooling or warming), but it is not what I classify as throat hit because it does not produce any sort of thump in the chest/lungs, only a chemical warming or cooling sensation which is not comparable to the throat hit delivered by nicotine.

I've investigated a variety of ingredients and so-called throat hit boosters/nicotine alternatives and posted reviews on 3 of them about a year ago, but none of them were even remotely close to the sensation nicotine delivers, unfortunately. Capsaicin comes closest, and it does seem to work for some, but it definitely doesn't hit me the right way. I've tried a home-made black pepper extract too, but that was, in its own way, worse, since it greatly influenced the flavour of the juice.

Again though some of these might work for some people, it all depends on how receptive they are to it, but they won't be the same thing as the real thing.

Exactly. It's possible to greatly reduce your nicotine intake if you drop your nic level 1mg over a long period of time, like every month or something, because it gives you a long time to get used to the drop. The problem is, with each mg dropped, the difference in strength of the next lowest level increases -- the difference between 10mg and 9mg is only 10%, but the difference between 5mg and 4mg is 20%, and 2mg to 1mg is 50%, so it gets logarithmically harder to drop with each level. But it can be done, and additives/alternatives only go so far.

You might never miss or need the throat hit if you didn't have it to start. I think the addiction and habit and its replacement varies a tremendous amount with everyone. Depending on how you vape, what you want or think you need changes as well in my opinion. I always thought the amount of vapour was an odd obsession, but after going to higher voltage devices I completely understand. If I ever touch a cigarette now, aside from the awful taste and smell, I'm really disappointed by the lack of smoke compared to vapour. :)

Other pepper extracts and even distilled water added to juices are supposed to increase throat hit.

sounds like you've researched the capsasin and alcohol much further than I have. I want to look into it a bit more but so far Ive only read what others have experienced and posted here on the forum. when you say "the real thing" do you mean cigs or vaping? to me, vaping has a much better throat hit haha. I love the vaping throat hit. smoking cigarettes is WEEEEEAK. :p Thats why I'd over-all rather vape hah.

As far as stepping down, where did you get your information about how it gets a little harder for each mg once you are past 10mg or whatever? Is that an effect of dermal absorption or what? I ask because I have been in the entheogen and botanical scenes for YEARS prior to coming here to EC Forum to think talk and learn about e-cigs. SO, I am very experienced in withdrawals and tapering. In many senses, I spoke about withdrawal from different psychoactive plants or drugs daily on an educational perspective for most of my life. I have never heard of the theory or fact that with nicotine specifically, it becomes another 10% harder to quit? I believe you, I just find it different from other substances. Anyway, I personally enjoy my throat hit so I wont be running from the nic anytime sooon :p NOO way haha

That's something I found odd back when I was in the early stages of my vaping career. I'd tried a cigarette a few weeks after I started vaping (and this is after I had a cigarette at the one-week point as an experiment, at which point it was disgusting but still had throat hit). I found once I was pretty much used to E-cigs, cigarettes -- the same ones I smoked -- seemed to have almost no throat hit anymore. It was sort of bizarre to me. But in a way I suppose that was a good thing as it was just one more reason I never wanted to go back.

But when I say the "real thing" I mean nicotine specifically, in E-liquid.

It's not that it's harder to quit the dependence on nicotine -- that part is comparatively easy. It's just that as you approach zero, the difference in throat hit from one level to the next lowest increases. If you manage to get yourself down to and used to 1mg, switching to 0mg is a much greater drop (100%) than going from 2mg to 1mg was (50%), and likewise from 3 to 2 (33%). I'm speaking only to the throat hit here; eliminating your chemical dependence from 1mg/ml is fairly trivial as you're barely getting any at that level. It's getting used to the ever-decreasing throat hit (for those to whom it matters) that's the hard part.

Ah, now I understand. I can completely agree with that. I was going to say, I don't believe 1 bit that each mg down from nicotine is harder than the last in a nicotine withdrawal standpoint... But I didn't want to upset you, (I do have a lot of experience with upsetting people that... later... learn they WERE wrong, too, lol) and I didn't want to challenge you or anyone else. But I can totally agree with the fact that each level of nicotine juice has worse and worse and worse TH and I can't stand it. I want someone to invent a substance that increases throat hit in the lower levels. As soon as that happens, I'm getting right off of nicotine juices and going to 0. I can't wait. I want to be the one to invent it but I've been sooo lazy lately, at this rate, I'd rather wait for someone else to do it. Just PLEASE, HURRY UP someone else.

And I'm guessing you said absolutely not to those 2 students, right? hahah. I would. If it were a college class then I might allow it if it did not disrupt the class but it would be SURE to disrupt the class in highschool and would be bring negativity to e-cigs in general if caught wind. Try to calmly and maturely explain that to those 2 students and see if they understand. Then tell them to blow the vapor into their sleeve and to not let you or anyone else see, with threat of suspension if they are caught by you or their peers, & a wink. haha.

That's pretty much it. The first time was last year, all the kids around him were pretty interested in it. He showed us all how it worked, then I told him probably he should just pop into the hall if he needed a hit.

This year, a kid was really discreet, came up to me privately and explained that he was quitting. I told him just pop out into the hall when he needed to.

Both boys were looking for a nic replacement, and both can be seen in the smoke pit every day now, having given up on the idea of e-smoke. Too bad they probably have a really negative impression of the experience now, and won't likely try it in the future.

I was in that smoke pit. I was the one in the bathroom stall every other class. The 2 teachers that taught in the classrooms next to the boy's room hated me! I couldn't quit with e-cigs back then either. Not with all my friends smoking. I just simply couldn't do it. Now? I don't care as much. Back then? Reputation was everything. Maybe suggest they revisit e-cigs or mods when they graduate.

If you do come up with something that closely mimics the throat hit of nicotine but is harmless, I, and probably tons of others, would be on that like Berlusconi on prostitutes. The stuff out there now might work for some, I'm sure, but for me and many others, for the most part, none of it is effective at all. Most of the so-called "alternatives" rely on capsaicin for throat hit to whatever degree (including the ostensibly "herbal" blend of FlavourArt's "Flash" E-Liquid, which also tends to taste faintly of hay), and the boosters (like Throat Hit Plus, a.k.a. The Throat Whisperer) are mainly alcohol, so it's a throat warmer rather than a throat hit.

You'll get no argument here.... that sounds like the smartest way to do it. I'm new though and not ready to set up a lab. I started with a handful of 24mg juices. Ordered a couple more. Then my next orders were 18mg, and I also got a few 15s. My plan is simple.... I hit the 24s when I *need* a nic fix.... puff the 18s the rest of the time, and just puff a little more of them if it's not quite satisfying. I've smpling the 15s those times when I just want to idly chain-vape but not feed the nicotine addiction. So I'm all over the place! But it's working. No major cravings, and I'm finding I can't vape 24 mg all day long anymore like I did when I started, or I get the mini-headrush that the "first cig of the day" used to give me. Your way is certainly more sophisticated, and less shock to the system... but my hodge-podge approach is achieving my desired result: to lower my nic over time.

Well, that's really the beauty of E-cigs. There's no one right way, and you tend to find your own level that works. And that, I think, is critical to the success of E-cigs and why I tend to oppose most potential restrictions on them under a regulatory framework. It's important that users be afforded the freedom to choose what and how they vape, because it's how they will find the best success making the switch.
