So weird deal. Was working fine, now I can't get button to work/fire. If I screw top down to a certain point, it fire automatically. Back it off so it isn't firing, and button doesn't work. I've done broke, haven't I?

I've seen this happen with the grey Panasonic hybrid batteries, where the plastic wrap doesn't extend over the bottom edge. You might overcome this in any case if you flip the battery, button side down. Good luck!
And I am rocking panny batteries but you just blew my mind a little. Upside down? That goes against every battery in tube experience I've had previous.
I managed to get it working without flipping battery. Spring was a bit askew and I imagine was making battery bottom touch something and firing. Straightened that out and works perfectly again. Will flip battery should further issues arise.
I love mechanicals. Love learning about their non-parts. I think I want a higher end non-telescoping (but with different tubes) next.
