With a vv nova, if you're using stock heads, your resistance and chance of a short in the head are not any different to using a regulated mod.

The K100 has a 'hot spring' which will collapse in the event of a short, hopefully saving your battery. If you use a high quality in-line fuse (I've heard the 'Vape safe' is pretty good, I use the Kamry) on top of that, you've avoided most risk. There are still a couple of things you'll need to watch out for - for example many regulated mods have reverse battery protection. A mechanical will still fire with the battery reversed, but if the battery cover becomes damaged, you may have a dead short, and a major problem.

You need to avoid overdischarging unprotected batteries, but in practise it'd be pretty hard to do. The vape will tail off to near nothing well before you've hit the danger area.

Thanks for the quick reply, are you saying tgat a vv nova tank with stock heads has minimal risk " similar to regulated mods"?

What I'm getting at is that a lot of the perceived risk of mechs comes from the fact that people tend to use rebuildable atomisers on them, and often go for very low resistance.

It isn't that a prebuilt atomiser can't short - I'd in fact go as far as to say that it's important to check the resistance of any new head, either with a multimeter / ohm checker, or on a regulated device that can check resistance. If you want to be able to use new heads without checking them first, you will definitely need to use a fuse.

It's not that you can't - except that the protection can interfere I believe with the protection provided by a regulated mod, causing problems.

In a mech mod you can, and in fact the ideal would be a safe chemistry (IMR or hybrid) protected battery. Problem is that protected batteries easily available are not safe chemistry - they're ICR instead. ICR has a higher capacity, but will go up in flames when it vents.

I pretty much use my k100 all day with low to sub ohm rba/rda's. My batteries of choice include the aw imr's, sony vtc3 or vtc4 and the efest imr's. they are some of the best out there, as well as the mnke's and orbtronics but I dont own those yet.

on a vivi with heads you will want to check resistance before firing the device with a new one. was chatting with a people last night and one of them got a head for a evod i believe and it ohm'ed out at .11 which can be devestating to many batteries. they mass produce the heads and have minimal QC on the production to keep cost down and production up.

even rebuilding my own coils now for about a year there are still times im expecting a certain ohm and its way off from where it should be. 30 seconds of checking is more important and cheaper then searching for a plastic surgeon.

I just bought two orbitronic 3100 mah protected batteries and a 4 bay soshine charger for use in my k100 mod in the picture, I paid 60+ bucks for this, alot of mobey, but still alot cheaper than a plastic surgeon .
The question now is , how comfortable should I feel about how safe my setup is now that I bought these? I use standard tanks, vv nova , or ce , I might go building ny own sometime but not in the time being.
