Hey everyone,

My setup:

Ego C VV 1100 Mah battery
Kanger T3S clearomizer (Work very well for me)

I have been vaping for over a month and I am able to pretty much all basic work except rebuild my coils with new wicks. I got a Kanger aerotank in the mail a few days ago. I really like the look and feel of it. The stainless and glass is a win win for me. I have some serious issues with it that I just cant get past.

Im using a higher VG e-juice, but nothing really thick. It works fine in my T3S with no complaints. I washed and dried my aerotank beofre I used it. I filled it up about half way and let it sit for at least ten minutes. For the first few minutes it was great. I really was impressed. I got a super warm (but not hot or harsh) and thick vape. I took my time and did not rush to the next vape to let the wicks rejuvinate.

Out of no where I started gettting dry hits or close to it. They were very hot and tasted terribly burnt or harsh. Beyone enjoyable. It became very frustrating I have been vaping at ~4.3 to 4.0 volts, but with a new coil i have tried not going past 3.7 volts and it did not make a difference with the burning taste. I have been an adult with this thing. Taking a ~6 second hit and putting it down for a few minutes. Taking a few cold hits with out activating the battery does not fix the issue.

I seriously am very dissapointed with this thing. I then replaced the coil with the second one in the box and the same exact issue came instantly. I dissasembled the old coil and it was dirty and needed to be burned. I soaked it in vodka for 24 hours after cleaning it thoroughly. After the 24 hours i rinsed it in hot water and let it air dry. I then used this coil, and guess what, BURNT/HARSH taste.

I searched a lot and I did find one thread where someone was having the same issue. They said it may be a bad coil or too thick of juice. Im not buying that. Maby the coil is bad, but at the moment im not convinced. The crazy thing is, sometimes its ok, then a few minutes later its back to terrible.

Before I throw this $25 paperweight out, can anyone recommend a solution?

To recap, I have tried:

* Thoroughly cleaning and drying ALL hardware including the atomizer
* Trying a new battery
* Trying lower voltage (3.7v)
* Taking dry puffs (only makes it flood which is even worse)
* Shortening/flipping the rubber cap that sits on the atomizer post (makes it flood)
* Taking very slow and minute in between puffs
* Pulsing the on/off button during the hit

Thanks for the help!

EDIT* Also I cannot tighten down all the way the base that says Kangertech aerotank and the air controller adapter. I have to loosen it the tiniest bit to get connection with the battery.

Have you tried opening up the coil itself and looking for burnt residue? Also, have you tried backing off the rubber grommet on the top to allow for more fluid to reach the coils? Those tend to be some of the easier fixed for the aerotank/protank3 dual coils. If that doesn't work, I would recommend tightening the airflow to force more juice to get pulled with each draw.

I have 4 aerotanks at this point so I can say that they can be great, but I am also rebuilding coils with cotton/bamboo thread at this point so I can't comment as much on the stock coils. Hope you can figure it out.

I personally used a PTII with a regular eGo battery and it worked fine and when I bought a VV/VW, I did start getting dry hits (not burnt) but I was using a high vg juice. I started doing the unpowered hits and it corrected the issue for use.

I have heard about people having issues with knock-off Kanger products, knock-off coils, older style coils and generic coils. The old ones have a rubber grommet (between the pin and very bottom of the tank), the new ones are silicone. The rubber is a dirty white color and the silicone ones are clear-ish.

Burnt taste can likely only come from poor wicking, that grommet or a trashed, old coil. You can try new coils or even use a single coil PTII coil which I prefer.

I have seen suggestions about turning the grommet upside down, the stack silicone upside down and taking out flavor wicks. None of this worked for me.

I have checked for burn residue. On the coils specifically. The coils only had about 1 hour of use and they were black. I did clean and burn them to become clean. After they were burned they sat in vodka for 24 hours, then were thoroughly cleaned again, and air dryed.

Good point on tightening the airflow. I was under the impression that a more open airflow = more juice but now that I think about it, that is wrong.

Can you reccomened a good resource to give me direction on rebuilding these dual coils? The single coil doesnt seem too bad, but the dual looks a little scary :)

I'll just echo spewny's thought here- if you got your new aerotank and opened the AFC wide-open, you very well may not be pulling juice in at a sufficient pace.

I have been using it mosly wide open. Im going to try closing it more.

I purchased the kit from Sun-Vapers, and I believe it is authentic. Seems like they are a premier shop.

Thanks for the info!

Are you using the Dual Coil wicks with the long chimney?

Not sure. It is a dual coil wick. Not sure how I can differentiate the long chimney.

Same experience for me on the Aerotank, I get a burnt rubber taste. Taken it apart and checked the insulators on the coils and they were fine. Went through 5 heads from 3 sources. The only setup that tasted any good was my last head using pure VG juice.

My preference is to run my PV between 7-7.5W. Got better taste on a $10 Aspire BDC setup and then I got a Kayfun so not really motivated to troubleshoot it anymore. It's a great looking setup, easy to clean but I didn't have a good experience either.

Have you tried removing the flavor wicks? I tend to do this when vaping 100% vg, and it makes a world of difference. Or better still, replace the silica flavor wicks with some sterile cotton.

I believe the flavor wick is in the middle of the two coils. I might try that. Ive tried replacing cotton on my single coil T3S and I usually screw it up. Eather too much or too little. Flooding or too hard of draw :( No burnt taste though. Practice makes perfect.

I can say that rebuilding the duals is MUCH more difficult. I just picked up a 5-pack of regular protank coils for the purpose of rebuilding only. Very important note if you go with the older heads though is that you need to take the grommet and place it upside-down on the center tube in the tank. This is due to the height difference between the single and dual coils and you will flood...a lot. Took me a few days to learn that one and I must've wasted half a bottle of juice.

For build details, I followed the one from Rip Trippers rebuilding a protank and it works great. Moved to bamboo yarn since I could never seem to be consistent on the cotton wicks and it is a dream.

It is between the two coils. I put the sterile cotton on top of the top coil, PT2 style, and it really helps the flavor.

Actually I would recommend the opposite. Try opening up the air flow. It drops the temp of the coils and also increased airflow increases the flow in general. Try sticking a potato in your car's exhaust and it just reduces the flow in your system.

More like punching a hole in a straw and see how much liquid you get.

Im going to play around and remove the wicks and see how it goes. It sucks because when I first started using it, it was AMAZING. I had this enormousamount of vapor coming in, it almost was like I was drinking the liquid. It was very nice and flavourful :( :( I have yet to replicate that vapor amount since I started trying to fix the burning issue.
