Ok. I guess I need to spell it out in more detail. I was asking about the protank 3 dual coil replacement heads (as far as I can tell I think that is the exact description). I would like to know if there is any advantage to buying the new design as opposed to the old one. I also understand that the old style head is rebuild able but I'm not sure if the new ones with the integrated wick are. So therefore, there may even be an advantage in buying the old design.

Ok well if youre talking about the Protank 3/Aerotank 2/Evod 2 heads, than yes you need to hopefully find someone that still has old stock of the old ones in order to rebuild, otherwise no you cant really take apart the new ones.. Those heads have already been redesigned quite a few times since last year alone so WHICH old ones you find are also going to matter too.. Keep in mind, Im ONLY talking about the dual coil heads too.. The single coil heads for the Protank 2/Aerotank/Evod wont work in the newer tanks, theres been quite a bit of discussion around lately and theyre not the same size shaft anymore so the 'older' single coil heads wont reach the top of the tube and seal.. Some folks have somehow gotten em to work but in general nobodies had any luck with it..

I would suggest getting the old heads as you can rebuild them. Maybe there's a way to rebuild the new ones? I don't know as I don't have them.

Dual coil heads will NOT fit into clearos designed for single coils. You can screw the dual coil heads into the base, but it will be too long/high to fit into the clearo. Unless you file off the lip where the shaft fits in. But I haven't tried it, so I can't say for sure.

Single coil heads WILL work on clearos designed for dual coils. Just use 2 of the silicone grommets instead of one to seal up the centre tube.

It's also possible to use the Kanger airflow controller with clearos like the t3 (don't have an evod, so can't say for sure). Same principle applies. Use more of the grommets to seal the centre tube. I used 4. Lol.

Just occurred to me that it might be possible to use a dual coil head on an evod, using the airflow controller as base... Maybe

Edit: yep. Just tried it. A dual coil head (old design with slots) on the kanger airflow controller CAN fit into the t3. But 2 of the silicon grommets would be needed to seal the centre tube.

The problem with rebuilding the new ones is that there's a metal shield around the small slitted tube where you put the coils. That shield only has four small holes in it, and there's no way to thread a wick through them. However, I did manage to sort of rebuild one by cutting a slit in the outer shield as well, making it behave the same way for rebuilding purposes as the single coil head. However, when I did that I had to then come up with a new shield to keep the coil from flooding, which was a pain. I got it working, but then I decided it wasn't worth the effort, and just ordered a bunch of new coils on fasttech. So, in my opinion, rebuilding the single coils is easy and worthwhile, but rebuilding the dual coils isn't worth the effort.
