Kanger EVOD recoil issues

Hey there! New to the forum here. I searched around online for some answers to a particular issue I am having. I use an innokin iTaste MVP 2.0 mod. I use a Kanger EVOD clearomizer. I have started re-coiling and re-wicking with organic cotton myself. I re-coil with 34 gauge Kanthal. Now my Issue. I re-coil at about 2.5ohm and wick with cotton. Everything allways works out perfect until about the 3rd refill. After about the 2nd or 3rd refill it will downgrade in vapor production. Normally there is a nice sizzle and the vapor is great. Right after the second or third refill though it just gets crappy. No sizzle, bad vapor production just crap. Now using the coils that come on the stock heads I have never had an issue and gone weeks without a new coil. With this new kanthal I am coiling myself, it will last a couple refills. There will be nothing wrong with the coil, no shorts or anything. It just sucks. I can't figure it out. I normally vape at 4.2 volts. I've taken the stock coils up to 8.5 watts on a regular basis, never had issues and they are 2.5ohm also. It will be working fine until I unscrew the bottom cap and refill and then it will just go to ...., pardon my French :D. Any ideas on what is happening here? I can provide links to the Kanthal wire I purchased and the Evod I purchased as well if needed. wasn't sure if that was allowed here or not.

No matter what tank I use, I always change the cotton out with every refill of juice.

Sounds to me like its not the coil going bad, it's the cotton. If your getting two or three tanks off the same build that's great. But try changing it at every two fills even and I bet you'll be surprised.

If this is a major issue for you and too much hassle try getting some silica, just like the stock kanger coils.

Those are some great ideas. Here's the kicker... I've tried adding in new cotton and it's still the same no imporovement. After putting a new coil on it's back to normal. There's no burning of the cotton and no flavor issues. In fact when it craps out it just seems like it's not heating up high enough.

Back to the gauge of your wire. Try a thicker wire, it will last longer.

I really think you might be right about the thickness. In order to get it at about 2.5ohm I have to wrap it only 4 times. which in every stock coil I've looked at it's 6.

You should totally wrap the wire around a 1/16th or so drill bit first so you get a nice even tube so that you can easily take cotton out and put it back in. I think 32 gauge wrapped four times comes to about 2.2 to 2.4 so I don't know why your 34 gauge would be doing the same thing. I would think 34 gauge would require even more loops.

Well I go like 2 weeks on my rebuilt Aerotank heads, Don't know why it would take a poop on ya in a few refills. have you made sure the atty itself is screwed in tight into the base? Most times it just wont fire but try that and see what happens.

I just picked up an Aerotank, are you doing single or dual coil rebuilds? Inquiring minds want to know!

Once the stock coils go to crap I was thinking maybe a 2 mm 30 gauge single microcoil would fit. However I'm worried about leaks due to the size of the channels.

I make 32 gauge 1.4 mm 7 wrap microcoils for Kanger heads and they come out to 2.3/2.4 Ohms everytime. A 1/16 drill bit is about a 1.5 mm. A 6 wrap should get you in the 2.0 to 2.4 Ohm range.

I just got 100 feet of 30 gauge from Temco (great deal by the way, it was like five bucks with free shipping). How many wraps do you think I'll need with that for a Kanger coil? I haven't been rebuilding the coils since I learned you can just re use the existing stock coil by slipping some new silica in it, but I'm sure I'll need to sooner or later.

With the stock coils I was able to dry burn them and keep using them never had problems with multiple refills. I could vape them at 8.5 watts no probs. I would use each one for about a week. The coils I'm building I'm having to recoil once a day :( Which I mean I guess is fine but then my pocket starts to grumble as it thinks about long run costs. Which is the main priority of me building my own is to cut cost. Is it possible for a coil to still function and just suck at it? lol. The thing is I would take the cotton out, rinse it, dry burn it and it would glow like normal. I would put new cotton in and it would still suck. It also boggles my mind that it NEVER happens during vaping. It will be vaping great but if I unscrew that cap and refill it just goes to crap lol.

I thought maybe it was a pressure issue. I had heard that tanks build a pressure when pulling air through that will pull juice into the coil. I thought maybe that releasing it by refilling might be the problem and tried a few primer puffs but it did not get better. It seems like it's either not getting enough juice or that the kanthal is not heating properly, but like I said when I pull the cotton out and dry burn it, it glows just fine.

Please don't tell me you're actually dry burning your cotton, LOL.

I still think your wire is too thin. It's probably just melting away at the higher voltages. I don't know, just a guess, I don't claim to be any kind of expert at it.
