So Cal
Darryl,

Totally agree, but i build horozontial 2mm tightly wrapped coils 26g (between 5 and 8 wraps depending on what resistance im going for) and just run the wick straight thru the wick hole, coil, other wick hole and then trim the outer parts just enough to not get grabbed by the chimney. I have to say i like the flavor and clouds better than the orginals. I think the rebuilt coils just had a overall better preformance in quite a few areas and a wider range of capability.
Also tried with 28g and higher resistance,1.2 and 1.4 ohm builds, and again liked it better.

With the kanger you can just rewick the orginal coil assuming you didn't mess with the coil to much when pulling out the old wick.
But recoiling the kanger is not to hard either, after 2 trys, second one being a sucess, I again went with a 2mm coil tightly wrapped and just pushed it thru the top like i had seen on some you tube vid. Preformance was great, though i wouldn't say i liked it better than the orginals, came out even on this one.

My conclusion now on both coils is that they both a simple enough to rebuild, and adjust to my personnal taste that the only reason i would buy coils is for convience.
That being said my orginal sub-tank coils have outlasted the Alantis coils on most juices I use. Clouds and flavor on both tanks were great and if thats your deciding factor for purchase then hopefully you can try both before buying.

One more thing to add, when cleaning my Alantis tanks between coils, jucies, etc... i found soot( using a q-tip) in the chimney section above the coil stop but below where the drip tip sets. Has anyone else found the same? Still trying to track down the exact cause of this so i don't blame the coil in a hasty judgement.

With a Delta II on the way i will have one more set of trials with all 3 using the same variables. Of course i will report back here with what i find.

Thanks to everyone who has been helping me out with these comparisons.

Thank you so much! I'll look forward to your future review.

I'm up in the air on getting a Melo or Atlantis sub ohm tank as a topper for my iStick 30. The Delta II and Kanger Sub tanks doesn't even interest me, but that is partly because I think I just don't like the look of them. I use high VG (no PG) juices, and I think the Melo or Atlantis will work better for that too. I used to rebuild, but getting the wick right for high VG was always too much of a PITA for me. I didn't have time for it, so I like that all these well rated sub ohm tanks are coming out. Good for us!

The Melo is cheaper than the Atlantis, and has higher juice capacity, but the Atlantis has nice click adjustable airflow control that the Melo does not (it is more free spinning feeling). The Melo supposedly uses all organic cotton wick, and supposedly its replacement heads fit the Atlantis. I'm tempted to get the Atlantis and use the Melo heads for it, when they come out, but I really won't know until I read more about how people feel about the Melo and its heads. For now, I'm just planning on using an Aspire Nautilus Mini with BVC heads as a temporary topper for the iStick. I might end up satisfied enough with that I just stick with it, but I'd like to check out a sub ohm tank anyway.

What i meant was i left the filled tank with a coil in it unused for more than a few weeks.
Ive noticed, having done this in the past, that it for lack of better words clogs the coil. Or so i assume. Maybe your right and it has something to do with the vacuum.
I'll look into it when i get a chance. Thanks for the thought.

Don't think vac locking was the problem after that long, that was just a tip i found while using and getting dry, opposite of HS, blow, not suck, to get a good flow of juice going. [do i need a face slap here, naa]
Did you use those clogged coils back working?

On my Subtank, i've tried and error and end up creating a dual coil 0.45Ohm head with a 28awg kanthal with 5 loose wraps and firing at 20 watt the vape are decent not very cool and not very hot and the flavour was fabulous.

Thanks to everyone for staying with me during these comparisons and adding to the information we are collecting here.
Just a quick update and then I'll post/reply more tommorow after i get a chance to really collect my thoughts/findings....etc.
Delta II should be here today. Really looking forward to that after all the positives i've been hearing.
Also spent some quality time to really go over the Kanger Sub-tanks (all three versions) as well as the Alantis 7ml extention.
Again my goal here is to determine overall versatility of these tanks and more importantly their respective coils in reguards to long term cost of operation. ( i don't know how many times i thought "this is it! My final purchase, xyz device takes care of everything" only to try something new and realize "well sh** , gotta have this") but having put down the drippers for almost 2 months now because of these new tanks I think their gonna be around for a while and this style of vaping device is setting a new standard bridging a gap between a few different sub-sets of vapist. IMO anyhow.

That being said i wanna get the most out of these multiple choice rba's and do so with minimal expense and minimal time spent to achieve a great vape. These comparisons will hopefully point future vapist in the direction of meeting their goals and current vapist to a device that will keep extra cash in their pockets and time to spend on their other interest.
As for flavor and clouds it has been covered quite a bit in other threads, but as of now I really think that both do a great job in both departments and if that is your only deciding factor in purchasing then you'll probably be pleased with either, given you take the time to really figure out the right resistance, wattage, and airflow setting for your juice.

Vape on.

So Cal
I ordered a Kanger Sub Tank Mini as my 2nd sub ohm tank, Atlantis being my first. Once it arrives and I've had some time at the drip tip, I'll post my observations.

So far, while I love the Atlantis experience, I am not happy with the stock atomizers. I am very unhappy that they use ceramic paper in them, not good from a health standpoint, nor am I happy with their lifespan. I've had my Atlantis for 12 days now and I am on my 5th atomizer.

I have rebuilt a few atomizers successfully (some just with a rewick and some with homemade coils), but they are a bit of a PITA to work with. Just rewicking the OOB coils produces a much tastier vaping experience!

So got the Delta II,

Right off the bat i smelt machine oil, though i could not see or feel any on the deck, tank, or mouth piece.
Figuring it must only be a little left over residue i washed everything with just warm water, and then dryed it all with a hair dryer set to low......mistake.
If you can smell machine oil, then its there, and use soap. Lesson learned. Though I didn't think it was gonna happen on something from joytech, i mean you expect it from rda's or rba tanks, clones, etc... not from bigger name producers of ready to use gear. Neither Kanger or Aspire have ever sent me something that needed cleaning first, so my assumption got me a horrible first tank.

Now cleaning the tank out is somewhat simple, but not as easy as the subtank or alantis. The gap between the glass and chimney chamber is really narrow. And inside the chimney chamber, right where the chamber stops and the actual chimney begins there is a doughnut shaped piece of what looks to be foam, that seems to be glued in place.
I tried pulling that piece out gently, but it seems to take more force than I was willing to apply on my first go around with a new device. I will take a better look, and maybe even pry that piece out next time I clean. I just gotta know what it is. It seems to funcution as a seal between the atty coil head and chimney, possibly allowing for a better vacuum, thus better feeding the wicking material. I get back to all this later, after the next clean out and flavor change.

The coils, and their preformance in this device vs the Kanger Subtank and Alantis coils was the whole reason i made this purchase to begin with. Been vaping on the Delta II and the other tanks all with the same juice. So far imo the Delta tank is at least on par with the Alantis, but can take higher wattages and has more airflow. Checking the coil each time i refill, twice so far, it seems to be holding up on par with both its competitors, but it is going to take some time to see if it forms the black gunk like the Atlantis does, in which I have yet to see on the Subtank. The flavor is as clean as the Subtank and tastes the same when run at the same wattage. Again all these comparisons are done using all the same variables. I will be changing flavor soon to see if thats whats been causing the coils in the Alantis to blacken and gunk so quick.

Written enough for now, vape some more and I'll add my thoughts/experiences.

theres really alot of very good atomizers coming into the market so its going to be a matter of preference as to ur likes and dislikes.
until u buy 1 and try them out urself its hard to just go by someone else's review as they all are getting rave rewiews either be it atlantis, subtank, delta etc.
one good thing, the prices for what we're getting are very reasonable, i just got the subtank mini w/the rba, extra glass and coils for $34, i bought the nautilus mini not to long ago for that price

Owning both an Atlantis and a Subtank, I simply like hitting the Atlantis better, it's a cooler vape at 25-30w, whereas the Kanger at sub-ohm 25w or 1.2 ohm 18w was freaking hot with wide open airflow. Hot vape just doesn't work for me. (I should mention I vape 70% VG or higher in both) And the Subtank with the RBA was both too hot and too restrictive. Plus it seeps juice constantly. Plus it always added a dirty gym sock taste with the factory cotton. Felt like I wasted $50.

So just before sending the Subtank to the Island of Misfit Vape Gear, I decided to try rebuilding the 0.5 ohm OCC, not just rewicking. Did a 28ga/3mm spaced Kanthal coil with 7 wraps putting it at about 1.4 ohm, then wicked it with my own (not Kanger supplied!) organic cotton, put it all back together, let it soak for a bit, and hit it at 18w.

OK, that's the business! Cool vape with plenty of flavor and decent cloud density, no wicking issues, no funk taste. Far superior to either stock coil IMHO, what with my extreme dislike of hot vapor. Next time I might go with 24ga or 26ga and run a few more wraps just to get more surface area and see how that works. Still not as good overall as the Atlantis to me, but not a total waste of money for me now, and there's much to be said for a 6ml tank capacity. :)

And it's just STUPID easy to rebuild. It's easier than using the supplied RBA deck, I kid you not. Seriously. Easier. Than. The. R. B. A.

The only "hard" part is getting that press-fit top cap off, but even that's a snap (no pun intended) with a vice and a pair of pliers. You can rebuild without doing that, but it limits the length of your coil a good deal, pretty much forcing you to low gauge/low resistance coils that will fit through the smaller hole.

And folks, when I say it's easy, do keep in mind I twisted my first coil ever this last week.

Thanks for this! I just got the Subatank Mini and immediately filled it up with the pre-inserted .5 coil. Not a fan of a hot vape, and should've known better since my husband has the full-sized Subtank. My first thought was to swap it for the 1.2 in the box, but found this thread and decided to pull out the coil on the rebuildable and try your built. Spot on!
