I didn't get into this vaping thing to start building stuff, but today (after many, many viewings on YouTube) I successfully rebuilt 6 atomizers for my Pro Tank. I achieved ohms ranging from 1.8 to 3.1. Initially, I was handwrapping the coils, but after a few I decided to try wrapping the coils around a screw, which is one of the methods I learned about during my second semester in YouTube University. I was immediately impressed with my newly acquired skill. Whoever was inspired to wrap around a screw deserves a Nobel Prize. Of course, I saw the increased resistance, and decided to go as high as I could, which got me to 3.2 ohms initially, but after fidgeting with the position of the coil, settled in at 3.1. Oh baby, your coil is so tight!

I then immediately set my VAMO V3 to 15W to try it out.

I very quickly discovered that I am not a big fan of 3.1ohm coils, but hey, I did something other than vape all night while playing PS3, AND now I know what ohms I want my coils. And knowing is half the battle.

Luckily, I built all of the rest of them as close to 2.5 as possible, except for the first hand-wound few that landed around 1.8. I used a bit of 32g kanthal folded in half to thread the 1mm silica through. I did a fold on a fold with the wick to achieve a four wick tunnel of vaping pleasure.

Oh yeah!

And the screw I used was big enough that there is still plenty of room to feed the juice with four freakin' wicks. Who'd of known?

Tomorrow, I build with cotton on my RDA Octopus. And currently, it really puts the puss in Octopus. I shall log in again, and keep you in the loop how it goes, but probably on a different thread, since it has no tank. VAPE ON, VAPERS!

Sounds like you're having fun!

I rebuilt my first heads with the Protank 2 a week or so ago. First by hand around a wick then around a 5/64 drill bit and it went great. I will try a screw next time because I like having that nice looking circle in my coil to prevent hotspots and to easily predict what resistance it will come out to. I'm also going to see what length I'm using so I know how much I am wasting.

I am not sure if I like cotton over silica though. My hands got a bit sweaty and i can sure taste it. Yuck! Maybe pick up some sterile gloves to prevent that.

Congrats! :toast:
Amazing---- I just built my first 2 coils for my PT2 last night a 2:00 A.M.
32g round kanthal wrapped 6/5 times around a 5/64 drill bit, then used my new handy butane torch to oxidize well and remove the memory, and contaminants from the kanthal, fiddled very little to get even spaces between each coil, straight and not a too close to the walls of the confined area. I then set it into place with a little smaller diameter syringe needle, so it would drop down closer to the bottom of the groove, put grommet and pin and it read 2.6 ohms. then fired it and a nice even glow appeared. It didn't look like hot spots were present from my amateur viewpoint. Next, I got some clean 100% sterile? cotton balls and took just a wisp from it and rolled thin, without trying to actually twist the stuff. Got a point at the end and put in in, and grabbed tweezers to pull it the rest of the way thru, tweeked off the excess some.
My thought was to mimic the Rip Trippers video on the the micro coil build.. This guy is good at tutorials..
So, I put some juice on it, and a hair of cotton for a flavor wick, more juice and fired it again.
Lovely visions are dancing in my head now.....
assembled back with the silicon cap and all is doing very well... My second coil I gave it 5 wraps and came in at 2.0-1 ohms.
Put in my PT2 and the other 2.0 in an evod... They are doing well, no gurgling at present<<<
I think I like the fact that I should be able to pull out the cotton when it gunks up, fire clean the coil and stuff new cotton in.
so far I like what I am learning..

I started fiddling with microcoils again today. I originally was using 2.2 -2.5 ohm coils but didn't like the fact they they took a moment to fire up hot enough to vape. I built a 1.6 ohm and 1.8 ohm microcoil and i'm much happier with the performance. They start vaping immediately after pushing the button. I run them generally at 4.0v with cotton wicks on mini-PT2. About 8-9 wraps of 30g Kanthal on 1/16" drill bit.
