Kanger Protank 2 issues/questions

Hi all,

This is my first thread on ECF and I'd like to start off by saying that as of today I am one month free from analogs! I have my first baby on the way arriving in January and if it wasn't for personal vaporizers, r/electronic_cigarette and the ECF I don't know if I could have quit in time. So thank's to everyone!

Ok, down to the nitty gritty......

I have experience with EVODS and protank mini's and recently purchased a Protank 2 to use with my sigelei #8D and I'm having some issues.

1. The Protank 2 will screw down all the way on my sigelei 8 but if screwed down tight I get zero draw. I have to back it up a bit to get it to pull right. Is this normal?
2. I am getting dry hits on the protank 2. Things I've tried are: replaced the coils that came with it, removed both flavor wicks, removed one flavor wick and kept the tank 3/4 full. None have rectified the dry hits on the sigelei. I have added a kick to the mod and it's set to 7 watts and still got dry hits. I tried with no kick, still dry hits.
3. Using the protank 2 on my iTaste v3 vv/vw. I am getting dry hits with anything over 6.5 watts. Since the kick on the sigelei was set to 7 and I was getting dry hits and I am getting the dry hits with 7 watts or higher on my itaste v3 I am assuming that the higher power is not letting the wicks soak quick enough. Does that sound accurate?

Is there any way to get the protank 2 to wick faster/better with higher wattage? Any other tips beside rebuilding/rewicking that I can do to prevent dry hits?

Will the first protank provide better performance?

Thanks a million!

Can you provide a little more info, like whats the pg/vg rating of ur juice?

You may need to get you an airflow controller. Ive seen some mods need it due to the tight draw.

Tank Airflow Controller

Are you using the stock heads that came with it or evod heads. I didnt find a difference in my pt vs the pt2 on air draw. I love them both and have had zero issues on my vamo.

Maybe try turning the power down and go up in increments to find the sweet spot. Are you chain vaping??

I'm using a mixture of 40/60 pg/vg mixed with 50/50

Interesting, I may do this. Have you tried it? Did it work?

I replaced the heads that came in the PT2 package with heads from a replacement pack I ordered with my PTmini

This happens even when I'm not chain vaping. I can get a good hit on my itaste at 6.5watts. I guess I need to lower the watts on the kick for the sigeili to hit right.

Thanks for the reply!

Sorry no. I havent tried the airflow controller due to the draw is just fine (for me) on my vamo from both the protank and protank2. Alot of others here do use it. Try the search function and you will see lots of threads about them.

I use 50/50 and i automatically remove one of the wicks on all protank heads i purchase. I run 2.5ohm heads at anywhere from 3.7 to 4.1 volts depending on the hit i want at the moment. I would probably lower you watts like you suggested. What one pv hits just right at, may not equate to the same on another.

I would be careful with an airflow controller if you have a Vamo. If you screw it down all the way it will push the post down inside the Mod.

I disagree with the suggestion of removing flavor wicks. They're there for a reason and they're the primary means of preventing a leaking problem.

Instead, you should replace them with longer and/or thicker strands of cotton. You can use cheesecloth, cotton yarn or braided cotton.

The dry hits are being caused by the wick's inability to move moisture across the coil given the power setting. You're vaporizing liquid faster than the liquid can be taken up. The higher the VG content, the more this becomes an issue.

You should back the power down to 6.0w and adjust up until it tastes and produces right. If you insist on setting it at 7.0+ and you don't improve the wicking ability of the atomizer, the dry hits will continue.

I agree with IBCR. I was going to post near the same thing but no sense now. When I rebuild my coils for the protanks I always put in a flavor wick. It can mute the flavor a bit if the flavor wick is too big so I just make sure its smaller. It's a small price to pay to avoid the juice always leaking into the draw tube.

Yep. After you do it a few times, you get the hang of about how much material you need to get decent flavor and production without the thing spitting and gurgling.

I wish I knew who came up with the flavor wick removal idea. I'd like to travel back in time and smack'em upside their wobbly heads with my Vamo in Big Boy mode.

You can also flip the plastic cap on the center post. When i'm using 100% vg I always do that even eith 50/50 vg. Good luck.

You mean the white seal thing that sits ontop of the coil? Flip it upside down? This would help the draw become more airy and not as tight? I would think that would have a chance of leaking...

Im only have the problem of tight draw. No dry hits here.

So I have the same issue with my Protank2's on my Provari Mini and I figured its time to get an airflow controller. Is it okay to use one on the Provari Mini? Does anyone else use one on their Provari? Thanks, Matt

Same thing happens to me on my Provari. It looks like we need to invest in a tank airflow controller

Not gonna fool around with my wicks. I don't get dry hits and the flavor is excellent when I twist it off enough just so it makes contact but it's still a tight draw. I'm thinking if I screw my coil in tighter it'll push down more and make contact sooner so I don't have to untwist it as much...

My experience with my first tank of liquid with the Protank II was the same - no dry hits and excellent flavor. Then as the liquid level was almost out, it started leaking at the bottom.....then no matter what I did I couldn't get it to work like it did the first time. Well, until I changed the wicks, that is.

Hopefully the heads your using continue to perform well! While fiddling with things is interesting, it's always better if the product we spent our hard-earned money on would just work the way it was supposed to.

Hi all,

I had this happen to me all weekend with my brand new protank 2's on my provari mini. I couldn't figure out why I was getting zero draw on both of them, until yesterday. I was over-tightening the coil head into the base. The coil head needs to be snug, but not super tight, or else the 510 connection is too tight in the well. Re-installed them on just a snug tightening and they work perfectly now. No leaks so far.

Try adjusting the tightness of your coil heads.
