I just ordered some liquid and a Kanger Protank 2 from mount baker Vapor. I've been looking at the Protank for a while now and decided to pull the trigger. I've been usually a Vivi Nova and I-clear 30 on my MVP 2.0 for a couple months now. I've read up on the Protank but I'm looking for some real world feedback from people who have one.

Is it better then what I am using now? Better flavor, vapor?

How long do the coils last?

Is it easy to clean?

Any tips or tricks for using it?

Can of worms opening in 1...2...3! Lol. The nova, I clear, and protank are pretty different beasts. With the bottom coil, I found the vapor to be a LOT cooler than with the other two you mentioned. Also the draw is much lighter/ airy. These are neither good nor bad, but you may or may not enjoy the differences. The glass tank is definitely a plus, and cleaning us a breeze. Coil life I found very dependent on what juice, and what power. Some would last for weeks, and others for days. The coils can be cleaned, and or dry burned very easily to extend the life. Or they can also be rebuilt, if you think you might be into that.

Now "better" is totally subjective! If the nova didn't leak like crazy, I probably would never have moved away from it lol. I have some flavors I really like warmer in the iclear, a couple I really like in a protank, and a whole lot I prefer in a punched carto in a tank!

The options are endless, but you can't go wrong at least trying the protank.

I expected a can of worms. lol

I like the Nova better then the iclear but the nova does leak. It usually doesn't bother me too much but sometimes its a bit much. I haven't tried a bottom coil yet so I'm interested to see how the flavor profile changes with the liquids I use.

I haven't gotten into rebuilding coils yet. Replacements are pretty cheap but I may check it out down the road. With my Nova and iclear I just through the used coils away. How do you go about cleaning a coil for re-use?

Hi Sohc!

This is a very tough set of questions to answer because all of them are subjective. You can ask 100 people and get 100 different answers to all these questions.

Is it better? Maybe. It will have a cooler vape than you are used to, so that *might* be better.
Better flavor? That is going to depend completely on your tastes. I find juices to be crisper and tastier with the bottom coil, but that is only my opinion.
Better vapor? That is going to depend on the coil and juice you use. It may or may not perform better in a bottom coil than a top coil. My juices seem to do better in the Protank 2 than anything else I have tried.

How long do the coils last? Again, depends on your usage and juices. I generally get 2-3 weeks out of a coil before I need to clean it, and 2-4 cleanings out of a coil before rebuilding it.

Easy to clean? Yes, the entire tank comes apart and is really easy to clean.

Tips or tricks? Keep your tank between 1/3 and full, don't let it drop below 1/3 if you can help it, lots of folks have problems with leaking when it gets below about 1/4-1/3 of a tank. Wipe down the battery connector and the 510 threads EVERY time you fill it. This will help keep both the battery and the tank performing at it's best. I just use paper towel, rolled to a point, to wipe out the connector on the battery and then use it to wipe off the 510 threads on the tank. Final tip, save your used coils for later rebuilding, it is SUPER easy! Even if you don't think you will ever rebuild your coils, put them in a small container and set them aside. They won't take up much room, and in 6 or 8 months, if you still don't think you will rebuild them, you can toss them, there will likely be 3 or 4 by then :)

As always ... YMMV!

I think I have finally solved the PT2 issues...... I had a lot of luck with the first, eh, 20 something coils I got, 1 in 5 were leaking, gurgling, whatever. I burn my coils to clean them, so I don't know yet how to make my own coils.

1. First I replaced the wicks with boiled bulk cotton....ok, great improvement.....for a while...
2. Took a suggestion on turning the silicone ring/cup of the stem, turning it upside down and replacing it back on the stem (chimney), yep, great.....for a while.......
3. Final modification and it has yet to fail me. "Double cup it"!!!!! Leave the original cup pointing down on the stem and add another pointing up on the stem. This is working! I think the whole deal is between the actual stem and the draw tube you channel the stem into after you refill the PT2, it's not snug, tight, whatever, and juice is sucked into the draw tube through the surrounding gap.

And I took a pic to you could actually see it!

Yep, it's working like a charm, no gurgle, no juice suck, necessity is the mother of invention!!!! To say nothing that I have 2 PT's and 4 PT2's that I'm not going to throw out.
PS. And you can vape that puppy almost dry, no refill at the 1/3, 1/4 mark!!!! BTW: Me and my Vivi do NOT get along, leaks......

I have a PT2 and a Vivi V-Fate. I mostly vape thick 100%VG juice from VCV. For flavor, the V-Fate beats the PT2 hands down. With the PT2, if I take consecutive vapes too quickly, I get dry hits, as if it's not wicking quick enough. I don't have this problem with the V-Fate. I have the 2.0ml and the 3.5ml V-Fates. The 2 has yet to leak, the 3.5 leaks more than I'd like it too. Other than the wicking, I've had no issues with my PT2.

I've used my pt2 for over 2 months now. Not a single leak. I burn through coils though, probably 5 a month. I vape dark tobacco flavored juice 50/50. I've taken it apart probably 5 times since I've had it too.

Yes the draw can be airy, but it depends on how long the battery post is on the coil insert. I've found one that was so short I couldn't even draw from it. Vape is a bit cool and they don't like a lot of power. Anything over 3.7v from my lava tube burns quickly, regardless of it's a 1.8 or a 2.2 ohm coil. And the wick is pretty small as well which can cause the burns during chain vaping.

Flavor for me is the same from the iclear30 and the pt2. As long as you're not cloud chasing, the pt2 IMHO will not disappoint.

Thread killa!

I've tried the iClear 30 and the ProTanks. The Protanks won me over because I found the iClear burned through the juice. I also preferred the looser draw on the Protanks, I hated how tight the draw was on the iClears. Lastly, I'd get the occasional dry hit with the iClear 30's. In the iClears favor, the coils lasted me MUCH longer than the Protanks. You learn to rebuild and dry burn the Protank heads. OTOH, my best friend uses the iClears. The Protanks don't work for him and the iClears perform beautifully. Good idea to give them a try even if they turn out to not be your thing.

Burning through juice won't bother me. Both my iclear and vivi nova burn through juice pretty quickly. I'm looking for something with a good consistent hit without dry hits. Both my current ones tend to have some dry hits. I'm also looking for something that doesn't leak. My vivi nova leaks.

How does the protank mini stack up to the regular pro tank? I have some smaller ego style batteries that I considering purchasing a mini if I like the regular version. I us an MVP2.0 as my main device and sometimes it's a little too bulky while out and about.
