I've had this tank for a couple of weeks now and really like it. Zero issues with the rba using the pre-installed coils so far. Super easy to wick.
Glad to hear it. The press fit construction of the RBA has me holding off for now until I can at least confirm the outer dimensions of the RBA Deck and Chamber assembly but for some reason it appears impossible to get any one who owns it to pick up a caliper and measure the thing accurately. Don't suppose I could prevail upon you to do so?

My son is sending me a Protank 4 that I am going to use with the dual coil RBA deck .... but, after doing an internet search, it appears that the coil posts are just press-fit into the base of the deck resulting in them getting loose over time. This results in either the coils not getting any power at all, or fluctuating ohms readings.

Once one of the coil posts becomes loose, it cannot be tightened up by the user.

Until Kanger fixes this issue, I think this Protank 4 is completely unacceptable if using just the RBA deck.

Dissapointment

Tpat591 .... That's good news, but unfortunately it won't help others that have already ...... away money for the Protank 4 clearomizer .... I guess all we can do is trash-can the RBA deck and just buy replacement coils for it.

You would have thought that Kanger would have caught this defect prior to releasing the Protank 4 to the buying public ... Thank the lord that they are not in the business of making heart pacemakers!

What has happened to KangerTech?

Used to be that you were getting a good value from them but lately their stuff has been craptacular. I still use the original Subtank Minis on-the-go, but more and more I'm becoming leery of giving them any of my hard-earned cash.

People will argue that all of these companies do the same, but that wasn't the case with Kanger until recently. I guess I just expect better from them.

Mine was sent to me from my son in Japan, but should be here in about 3 days. I have a digital caliper and would be glad to measure anything you want on it as soon as it comes in the mail.

I have asked sever people to do so and can't find any who seem to be able to make it happen. Appreciate the offer. Looking for the dimensions of the RBA head itself (dia & height with chamber installed both from the positive contact and the base of the rba deck itself.

I do have reports that the RBA can in fact be used in the Subtank Mini but is too wide and tall for use in Nebox, but measurements will help to confirm.

Thanks for your help!

Well, I got my Protank 4 in the mail from my son in Japan this morning and have had some time vaping on it.

I am a mouth to lung "tootle puffer' using a restricted airflow, and I normally use a Kayfun Lite-Plus V2 with a 1.3 ohm single Kanthal coil and about 12 watts of power.

As far as the Protank 4's RBA section ... For a 'tootle puffer' like myself, I found it to be totally worthless. I admit that I did not try the supplied dual Clapton coils that came with this clearomizer, but I did make a set of dual coils using Kanthal 27 gauge wire. I made 6 wraps around a 2.8mm rod for each coil. The total resistance came out to 0.50 ohms.

Since I 'tootle puff', I made the airflow restrictive and also used a drip tip from one of my Kayfuns on this Protank 4 (did not like the supplied Protank 4 drip tip). Started at 30 watts of power, the vape was very harsh ... Turned the power down to 25 watts but still harsh ... Turned it down to 18 watts and the flavor was very nice, but not enough vapor production (in fact, very slow to heat the coils and not enough vapor at all ... very little).

So, I installed the supplied 1.5 ohm 'mouth to lung' coil head .... This worked much better with a restrictive airflow and 13 watts of power (still like the vape on the Kayfun Lite-Plus better).

Did not try the 0.5 ohm ceramic coil.
______________________________

Here are three other things about this clearomizer I did not like ...

1. When using the RBA deck, the allen head screws that hold the coil wires into the coil posts cannot be tightened up too tight because they will push through the wire ... What Kanger should have done is not make the threaded holes in the coil posts go all the way though the post. That way, once the screws are tighted down on the coil wire, there would basically be a 'stop' in the coil post, and the screw would not continue to push into the wire until the wire is cut (bad design and it keeps the coil wire from being tightened down very much at all).

2. This may only be a problem when the Protank 4 is used with a eVic-VTC Mini box mod .... Even when the Protank 4 is fully screwed into the 510 connector on the box mod, the Protank 4 wiggles. It wiggles because the threading on the Protank 4 clearomizer is just a little too long allowing a slight space between the box mod and the bottom base of the Protank 4 .... I fixed this be pulling out the Protank 4's 510 connector center pin and then grinding down the theaded area of the atomizers 510 connector slightly, which made it shorter. Then reinstalled the Protank 4's center pin and now the Protank 4 can be screwed all the way down on the box mod with no wiggle at all (no gap).

3. After the Protank 4 sets upright for awhile, I sometimes get a slight amount of gurgling from it ... very annoying.

If this clearomizer don't start playing nice, it may just go in the 'round file'.

All in all, I may use my Protank 4 as regular clearomizer using the replaceable coil heads. Fasttech also sells these authentic SSOCC coil heads in the 1.2 ohm variety which I think I will use instead of the 1.5 ohm SSOCC heads

And lastly, I am of the firm belief that the Protank 4 was designed for lung hitters and NOT mouth to lung vapers.

Thanks for your help!

The total height of the RBA assembly which includes the cap installed is 13.68mm (this does not include the positive contact pin that protrudes out of the bottom of the RBA's base)

The total height of the RBA assembly which includes the cap and the positive contact pin is 22.26mm

The outside diameter of the RBA / cap assembly is 15.47mm

The diameter of the actual build deck is 13.98mm (this does not include the little outer threaded lip that that the cap screws onto)

The distance between the outside edges of the two coil posts is 11.70mm

Thank you so much! You have no idea how difficult it was to get anyone to answer that question.

Appreciate your help!

For you folks that want to make your own [single] coils for the Protank 4 .... My son in Japan said the single coil 'Kanger Mini RBA Plus' build deck that is included with the Kanger Subtank Mini will fit in the Protank 4 (he is now using it).

I don't have one of these single coil build decks, but I may order one from Fasttech ($5.59):
$5.59 Authentic KangerTech SUBTANK Mini RBA Plus Coil Head - stainless steel at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Since I do mouth to lung style vaping, this single coil build deck may make my now 'unacceptable' Protank 4 become 'acceptable'.

Yes the Kanger Plus RBA from subtank mini will fit.

Re: the protank 4 velocity deck - are there extra grub screws you can thread into the post from other side and cut off w/ a dremel to act as a sold stop wire trap seat like you describe?

That is a great idea ... and I think there was some extra grub screws included.
