It's definitely worth making your own coils. I have found it much more satisfying in both flavor and vapor. Don't give up on it. It might take 5 or 6 builds to get it just right for you. There are also a couple of different wicking options that you could try. You have to remember that the videos on youtube are made by guys that have been building a long time and do it as a hobby or profession. They also have editing software to make it appear as if they get it right every time. You'll get it and then think back and say "why was this hard in the beginning?" lol.

There are a few different versions of the RBA. The newer RBA shouldn't ever give dry hits, the older RBA's you need to work a bit harder to avoid problems with dry hits and poor wicking.

On the leaking issue there are a few little things that can cause it. Sometimes a bad coil, sometimes you need to replace the O rings and some times the heat outside has thinned the juice to the point it can seep through. Usually it's one of those and all are fairly easy to fix.

so if it is dry hitting a lot does that mean it wasn't done properly? I haven't tryed doing my own yet I might try that this evening
The rdas in those don't allow enough juice flow, I went to a local vape shop and had them drill small holes right above the juice flows on each side and that solved my problem

Hey I was searching for a solution to this problem and saw this thread so I hope you don't mind my posting here :) I have had the Subox Mini for about a week or two and noticed it was leaking quite a bit so I tried changing the coils , tightening everything up a bit , making sure the o rings were in place all to no avail. The sucker leaks like crazy. I put the rba coil in two days ago and it stopped leaking for a day but now its leaking so much I had to go back to my Aspire Nautilus and that makes me sad because the Subtank was really tasty esp. with the rba coil. I saw that someone above mentioned bad o-rings and maybe thats the case but I live in a real hick area here and know I won't be able to find a place to buy the new o-rings--where do you guys get the right ones for this purpose?

I'm confused why so many have leaking issues. I've had none even with the original subtank. Is it something with the vertical coils maybe? I have a black subtank on order, so at this point I'll have one of each revision. I haven't used the newer rba, but I just drilled holes in my old rbas, have yet to use them. Hope I didn't cause leaking but it was worth trying because I got dry hits. With the original occs I've had no dry hits ever.

What do you mean when you say leaking? Leaking from where? Through the mouthpiece or from the base maybe?

"
kanger subtank plus leaking" - man! you're telling me! I was so mad at my STM. However, since I switched to the rebuildable section it has been behaving much, much better. Very little leakage if any. I still don't quite fancy its flavour compared to other tanks but at least it is not leaking.

It's leaking through the air holes...Yeah the rba is better but still leaky. I thought maybe I didn't wick the thing correctly so I re-wicked and tried more cotton, less cotton, pancake-ing, trimming etc. I did ruin one of my older tanks because I kept tightening the darn thing so I know not to over tighten. The only thing I haven't tried is changing the o-rings because I'm clueless where to get those from. Happy 4th btw everyone :)

I thought the exact same thing and will be drilling some air holes into mine today.

I haven't had any leaking issues with my Kanger Sub Plus either, but I did with my Nautilus for a while. Discovered it was a combination of my vaping technique and the two heads that came with it both had O rings that were too thin. I rebuilt the coils on them and put thicker O rings on and all was awesome.

Maybe it's the plus then, I just noticed that. I have minis and a nano. Glad you got it solved.
