A T3S coil head will fit a Protank or EVOD... but not the other way around. Reason - The Protank/EVOD coil heads have a 10mm base plate while T3S heads have a 9mm base plate.

In an experiment, conducted a day or so ago, between myself and another ECF member... He had some older T3Ss and EVODs - and I had recently purchased, genuine Kanger parts.

He was able to fit Protank/EVOD coil heads into a T3/T3S "tank". I won't quote every word he said, but according to him, they fit, but not perfect - and they worked OK.

Below is a copy of my results.

______________________________________________

All items come from genuine Kanger packaging and all coil heads have resistance markings.

1. T3 tank. T3S base. EVOD coil head with 10mm base plate.

  • Coil fits base.
  • Base will just start to thread, then bottoms out or binds.
  • Using pliers, I force the base a half turn and remove the base.
  • Looking inside the tank, there is a gap between air tube seal and tank air tube that is greater than the gap that remains between the base and the tank.
  • Upon removing the base and coil head, the plate on the coil head is bent downward.
2. T3S tank. T3S base. Protank coil head with 10mm base plate.

  • Coil fits base.
  • Base will just start to thread, then bottoms out or binds.
  • Using pliers, I force the base a half turn and remove the base.
  • Looking inside the tank, there is a gap between air tube seal and tank air tube that is slightly more than equal to the gap that remains between the base and the tank.
  • Upon removing the base and coil head, the plate on the coil head is bent downward.
3. I swapped out the coil head types between the two different (well, not that different really, they measure almost identically for thread depth and diameter) tanks and got the same results.

Here's my theory. All my Kanger products are relatively new, at least to me. What are the chances that there are sufficient variances in batch or lot machining from what I own, to what you (other ECF member) own, that allows us to each have differing results... and I can't duplicate your results, at least not without destroying something?

So... there ya' go.

Thanks for such a concise explanation, I appreciate it... :)
No problem. It's actually too bad that they don't seem to interchange... at least not with any consistency. It would eliminate the need to buy two types of coil heads. I'd love to be able to just use Protank/EVOD heads in T3Ss... but I can't, at least not with the Kanger "bits and bobs" I have.

If one were feeling a bit "industrious"... you could take a Protank/EVOD head and file down the base plate to - well, small enough to fit in a T3S tank.
That or "bore out" the lip inside the T3S tank. They average 9.37mm, so you'd need to open one up about 0.6mm, or take a PT/EVOD base plate down the same amount. Either way, around 0.6mm.

But... there's still a possible issue with air tube fitment in the tank fixed tube. A gap, over-compressed or a perfect fit? That has to be looked at as well.

Discount Vapors showed a statement from Kanger that the EVOD and Protank coils are now exactly the same and will be sold as such. Lots of people have been swapping them out already. I guess the only difference between the two was the length of the post and they elected to go with the longer one.

I am a big fan of all three Kanger BCC's. I hope they eventually make all of them interchangeable. But for now, two out three ain't bad!!!
