I think that is wonderful and will probably work to everyone's advantage. I've watched "Lock Up", that prison documentary, a few times. Almost everyone who goes to prison smokes, and then all of a sudden they have no nicotine. Withdrawal has to make all those difficult people harder to manage in prison. Prison staff spends lots of time and energy searching and taking away contraband smokes. Then they have to write up reports on it, and figure out a suitable punishment for the violation, and enforce that.

Maybe this will put a little calm into a very disruptive equation.

I'm not seeing a problem. It's a county jail, so really violent offenders are unlikely and hence the risk of selling lithium batteries is minimal. They're not being subsidized by the taxpayers--quite the opposite--so that argument doesn't apply.

The price is very high, but given that these have to be specially made in smaller quantities, I'm not terribly surprised.

I was a Corrections Officer when Vermont first stopped allowing inmates to smoke in the prisons. It was a very bad 6 months that led to allowing outdoor smoking. If they can produce prison safe Vapes, I'm all for it.

Glad to hear you agree with this. And you certainly should know, having worked in the system. Common sense tells me it's a good idea.

I worked medical for a half dozen prisons. When they started the no smoking policy, we were very busy for a long time. I'm glad to see an alternative offered to prisoners (even if it does cost an arm and a leg).
