Kanthal degrading when drill straightening

I purchased some 22g kanthal from a local shop and drill straightened it. When I ran my thumb and index finger over the wire it felt rough, had burrs and I had metal flakes on my fingers. I've never had this happen before. Is this just bad wire? Needless to say I didn't use it for the build.

I have no idea what drill straightening is, but overworking any metal may damage it.

That certainly doesn't sound safe. Maybe you went too wild with the drill, but folks apply all sorts of crazy forces to kanthal while building it in various ways and it certainly doesn't start falling apart. Flaking sounds abnormally brittle for kanthal, that alone would make me think it's not what it says it is.

Could be scaly wire or you could be over twisting it. Your not pre heating the wire are you. IMO you don't need to apply heat to a wire, until you push the fire button.

What brand of wire is that? sounds very sketchy.

No I am not preheating it before I drill straighten it. I believe it's kidney puncher wire. My local vape shop sold it to me and they told me their wire source is kidney puncher.

Try stretching it to straighten it if you are able to, it's the way I do all my wires now as I have noticed in the past where wire has weakened on me, last thing you want is the ohms jumping about because of dodgy wire
