For starters, Nichrome is not used for temp control. You would use pure nickel or grade 1 titanium for that.
Nichrome is a standard resistance wire, just like kanthal. Except that Nichrome is lower resistance per foot than kanthal is.
You could twist them together, but there wouldn't really be any point to that, imho.
I use 24g Nichrome for most of my builds, I use 26g for smaller build decks like tanks. Basically which wire you use depends on what you are going for. Nichrome allows you to add more wraps for increased surface area over kanthal. Greater surface area gives better flavor and vapor production.

Hey guys.

I've got 5m of both in 26 guage. I understand that the nichro is mainly used for TC mods - I currently have the Smok M80 plus with the Zephyr Buddha RDA attached.

The question is, can I use both the kanthal and nichro together as a parallel wrapped coil? Or is this a dumb idea?

Be as brutal or as informative as you like :)

NiChrome(s) does not allow TC to work on a TC Mod. Works fine in Non TC-Mode. But does work in TC Mode. Same with Kanthal(s).

You Can use a combination wrapped Coil of NiChrome and Kanthal. It just needs to be run in Non TC-Mode.

Nichrome shines on mechanicals because of its lower resistance, allowing for larger coils while keeping the qualities of low ohm setups. It's really not necessary for VW devices.

THIS +1,000,000!!! I don't know where everybody gets the idea that you need to go to such extreme sub-ohm set-ups with regulated mods. That's the beauty of a regulated mod... you can dial in your wattage/voltage to the perfect level regardless of your coil resistance. The need for sub-ohm coil set-ups are strictly for mechanical mods. With a fixed voltage, the only way to increase wattage is to reduce the resistance of the build.

God knows where I've read that about Nichrome haha. Thanks for the advice guys. I'm used to just using kanthal, so thought I'd try something different with the Nichrome!

To some People, there is a Difference between using Kanthal(s) vs. using NiChrome(s). I happen to be one of them.

I Don't like the Taste of Kanthals(s). And Vastly prefer the taste of NiChrome 80.

Seems like if you have Both Kanthal and NiChrome already, you could do a Side-by-Side Taste/Performance Test to see what you like Best.

Because at the End of the Day, this is All that Matters. Not what I or Anyone else here Likes. But what You Like.

BTW - Here is a Nice Page where you can Plug in Values of NiChrome or Kanthal to do "What If" scenarios for a given build.

I think I'll give it a taste test before going onto the fancy coils. Thanks for the advice everyone. Been looking at moving onto a mechanical mod pretty soon, but the Smok M80 has held up really well the last few months.
