Kanthal question

I apologize if this is the wrong forum. I'm getting more supplies and I just noticed something. This is the wire I ordered for our rba's:

Just noticed it says flat. Is this the wrong stuff?

Its ribbon.people use it, I never have. I can't tell you about the size, but like I said I don't use ribbon.

It'll work. Ribbon is a little harder to work with because of its tendency to act like a spring but there are a lot of people who really like it (although I'm not sure how well it would work for micro-coils). There are a few threads in the rba forum with advice on how best to use it.

As said above, round is easier to work than flat. Are you going for sub-ohm, because that is a heavy gauge wire, and will give you lower ohms.

Also, when buy, buy from Temco direct. For the same price you could get 50ft.

The whole thing regarding ribbon wire vs. regular Kanthal is that the ribbon wire is flat, meaning it touches more of the wick and creates more vapor. I've never used it myself, but there are quite a few people that actually prefer it.

Don't sweat it. Wrapping resistance wire around any wick is Bi--- when you first get started regardless of being flat or not. It does help to run a lighter over the wire before you get started. Just be patient and try to get it evenly across the wick. You will be fine.

Many of us tend to have more than 1 gauge of Kanthal anyway. If you likr RBAs, you will definitely not want to limit yourself to only one kind of wrap

The 0.8 width is not going to work, especially if you're building coils for small heads like those found on CE* and BCC's. You can't get enough length of wire to wrap properly to get a coil that has the right resistance to fit in those small spaces.

Edit to add: Don't let it get you down. I got a crapload of 32 ga wire from an electrical contractor who said, "sure! this'll work!" It turned out to be ferrous conductor wire, which promptly caused a short and cause me to toss the whole spool into the gadget box.

Thanks for the responses. I'm waiting on a new mechanical. Seeing as how I can make a .8 ohm coil with the ribbon every time, I figured it was a good time lol.

But I've run into a new issue. We've been using our Aga-t's for over 6 months and now all of the sudden I can't get a coil to save my life. Can you get bad mesh? I bought some new #400 and that's the only thing thats changed. Using the ae exact process I always have soon as I test fire the coil it immediately gets a massive hot spot near the top of the center post. This is completely unrelated to the ribbon stuff. This is with regular wire. What does repeatedly getting a hot spot like that indicate? We're talking like 5+ coils blowing and I've used that same method 30+ times before easily.

Update! My mechanical came in today. Decided to use the wick I had rolled to test the whole nonoxidized thing. Along with the ribbon. OMG. . That's the best description I have. I'm vaping some 18 strength I made myself. Used the same flavor on my VV with a protank. My head is spinning and my room is foggy.
