Yes, you are correct, it also seems to take longer to heat up, I think due to the mass. Just my humble opinion. I like 28 gauge personally. Good luck and have fun!
You are correct about the size but I don't know if it's accurate that resistance is related to size. I just don't have that knowledge. I seem to remember being able to purchase 28AWG wire at the same resistance as 32AWG.
Lower the guage, the thicker the wire. Think of resistance, volatge and amperage in the hydraulic analogy. To pump 50 gpm flowrate (amps)!through a pipe, the smaller the pipe (guage), the higher the pressure (voltage) will be required to maintain the flowrate.
