Hey all, bit of a stalker here. So let my first post start off with an introduction followed by a question.

I'm George, a 31(tomorrow  ) year old smoker of 19 solid years, but I normally go by EmeraldLeo1982 (same on Ps3, so add me if you wanna play something, diggin Hitman Absolution and BF3 atm). I've been vaping for about a month and I absolutely love it.

I started with the little Blu disposable ecig and after it died in about 1 hour of use I decided i had to get a real vaporizer type of solution, so I went and bought the local smoke shacks chinese ego clone with a CE4 knockoff (which i thought was a good deal at 30 bucks, boy was I wrong..). I still smoke analogs a bit, but the PV I have has reduced my habit from about 30 minute cravings to about 3-5 hours, which I'm super stoked about. I'm hoping rda and VV batt will arrive soon from fasttech, so I can setup dual micro's with this awesome kanthal ribbon I recieved from TEMco a few days ago.

So, nice to meet you all! =D Now on to my question..

I've noticed alot of coil setups on people's RDA/RBA with kanthal ribbon, glow a purpleish/pinkish color. Mine doesn't, although currently I've just got it setup as a 1.5ish (educated guess based on ohms/ft and a ruler) micro coil (wound on a paperclip) stuffed into my CE4 clearo with some doubled up cheesecloth (omg i love the cheesecloth way more then rolled up cotton, and it's like 3 bucks for a lifetime supply at walmart) running at standard ego voltages, around 3.7-4ish volts.

DISCLAIMER: Yes I know this is a semi-dangerous setup as there's various things that could go wrong and blow my face off, but I do try and monitor things as carefully as I can (making sure not to over vape my battery, watching for heat buildup, etc, atleast until I can find a multimeter to borrow from somebody, because I'm a poor .......)

But my coil only lights up to a reddish orange typical wire glow.

Now I know this isn't a major issue or anything, but I've scoured google, and ECF for a week, and can't find anything on the subject of what makes it glow purple vs red. Camera artifacts? Wattage Differences?

Any thoughts or proof on the matter would be greatly appreciated. And I'd like to apologize for my excessive use of parenthesis, it's just the way I think.. (very scattered).

I've never heard of differences in the color with which coils glow. Mine always glow a bright orange like metals commonly do.

BTW, it is good to be concerned about safety, and getting a multimeter is, let's say, mandatory. It always helps to know the resistance of the coils you are using.

I agree fully on the safety thing, but it really comes down to 2 situations for me at this time.

Buy an RDA and battery to replace the junker setup I have now, and not be able to afford a multimeter.

Or buy a multimeter and not have anything to use it on.

P.S. If somebody has a working multimeter they would like to donate, it would be greatly appreciated =D

The random colors you are speaking about, is because the way someone's camera picks it up. My phone for instance, picks it up with a blueish hue but, if I filter it as black and white, the glow looks normal.

Dang so it's just because of camera filters turning it from red to purple... that saddens me, but also gives me some relief, and some confusion. I did see 1 article on the web about a guy building an electric furnace with kanthal coils, and all his pictures show an intense purple glow and he states that it actually glows purple.

The color you see in peoples pictures are a result of the levels of infrared the cameras filter out. Smartphone cameras don't really filter IR so the glow is more purplish as it picks up the IR given off by the heated coil. You can see the LED on your TV remote blinking through a phone camera for this same reason.

When you see kanthal ribbon in person it glows exactly the same as kanthal wire.
