Doh! No power stinks.

Weirdest thing happened, I was just getting ready to shut down my computer last night as the storms were getting bad. Power went out before I could. Was only out a minute for us though. This morning I turn the computer on, everything works but the keyboard, so I can't type my password in. I'm thinking maybe somehow the USB port it's plugged into got fried, so I swap it with the mouse, nope, keyboard still doesn't work, but mouse still works. So it's not the USB port, it must be the keyboard itself. Never heard of a keyboard getting fried like that. By the way it has backlit keys and it still lights up. Just won't type.
Did you try rebooting to see if you got the same results? Or uninstall and reinstalling the keyboard? Just throwing out ideas...

Yep, reboot is step 1 of troubleshooting.
USB keyboards are plug-n-play, so nothing to install/uninstall. Which I wouldn't be able to do anyway without typing the password.;)

It's funny that you say this. Where I used to work, the IT guy was a graduate of Appalachian State University with a BS in Computer Sciences. He was called to the office of one of the suppliers one morning because she couldn't get online. He did this, did that, installed a new modem etc but she still couldn't get online. I walked into her office to request some supplies to be ordered and just politely asked if he had rebooted the servers. I got a blank stare and a firm no. He was reinstalling her old modem. So he went back and rebooted the servers....problem solved. The guy never spoke to me again.

In terms of storms, we don't usually get big storms here. The mountains shield us from things like tornados, etc. But Lake Placid had the worst storm it's had since the 1990s a few days ago. It shot up to 60, rained hard with high winds, then dropped very rapidly to the 20s and was snowing. The winds knocked over some trees, then the wet branches froze and snow caked to them causing more to tumble. Placid was without power for 19 hours. Even Irene didn't hit the area that hard.

I'm northwest of there, and we didn't have any damage or power outages. But it was still a sight to see. Everything was caked with ice and crusty snow the following morning.

The temperature instabilities up here are making for a very interesting and un-skiable season...though for Jan and most of Feb, the skiing was awesome
We have a high of 83 & low of 51 today. That's pretty normal for us. But we are always watching for 1 last cold spell before the end of March or begenning of April. Last year it was still cold on into May. We always have wobbly weather from year to year because our seasons are not sharply defined.

    That sucks! :(

Wow, that stinks. Sorry they are taking so long.

There are some spots around town with outages. Apparently we only have 6 residences affected?

I'm more worried about my phone dying than anything. Plenty of vapes available :D

Talked to SO earlier. Was trying to think where some candles were and then looked in fireplace to see about 10 pillar candles . Will fire up a couple of those later....

We rarely get outages where we live, but right after I bought the house there was a two day outage due to a huge Labor Day storm, then the following March we lost power due to a really bad March ice/sleet storm.

That summer I picked up a 3600W generator, connected through a manual power transfer switch. If power's out for more than a couple hours I can fire it up, power the main BR (with an AC), kitchen, heat (LPG, just needs power for electronics), water heater (LPG,...), water pump, and a couple other rooms.

I've only used it twice in the last 17 years. Periodic use/maintenance is all I do: fire it up a couple times a year, change the oil every year or two, make sure to run out the gas (& I always use ethanol-free gas with fuel stabilizer).

@Kaezziel I'm sure you are probably just busy brother, but I've noticed you haven't said anything since Monday morning. I've seen you liking posts so I know you are around, just wanted to make sure everything is OK.

Yeah, I'm good, Brother. Kinda wrapped up in my own head at the moment. I've been doing some research on some things and have been neglecting most other things in the process. Just kinda mentally all over the map right now and trying to settle in. Nothin' to worry bout, though.

Hope you're still doing well and hanging in there. You know I'm just a message away if you need anything, right?
