A little background first: I've been vaping for just over 2 months and haven't had an analog since I started but I've been plagued with throat irritation. First it was PG so I vape 100% VG juices. Vast improvement. I bought a kayfun last week looking to increase the flavor of the VG juices and wanting a device that didn't require replacement parts. But it is too hot for me. I coil it with 30ga kenthal and organic cotton wick at about 2.2 ohms run around 3.8v. Higher v = more flavor but is just too hot. My mouth and tongue feel burnt (even at 3.8v) and my throat gets irritated. Lower v and the vapor is much too light and flavor disappears. Any hints to run it cooler and still get flavor and vapor out of it? I don't have this problem with the protanks and I want to love my Kayfun. Oh…I run it on a sigelei Zmax with 3-8mg nic. Maybe I need to go up on the ohms? More wicking material? Any advice?

2.2ohm @ 3.8v is only 7 watts
3.65-3.7v would be a good middle ground

My question is does the Sigelei Zmax have an RMS mode? Most 33hz Mods do. Sounds like you do NOT have it set up correctly.
Possibly access menu - selection 8? set to RMS

Also - a wider drip tip(big Bore) will allow more air flow
A longer Drip tip will allow vapor to cool a bit.

You could try an additive like ethyl maltol (aka cotton candy flavor) or smooth. I mix my own juice and both of those additives have a soothing effect on otherwise harsh vapes. It would be a cheap experiment and only have to use 1-2% (.1-.2ml for 10mls of juice). 10mls of the additives cost 3 bucks.

Definitely try a a different tip.
I have 5 Kayfun 3 Lite and 2 Lite Plus
First thing I did with every one after setting up the first was to replace that skinny straw tip.
Basically increased air flow smooths the draw. More air also means a slightly cooler vape.

This is something quickly learned with dripping atomizers. We use to drill the air holes larger but now they come with several size openings.(good ones)

Now, is your Kayfun a 3.1, Lite, Lite plus?
3.1 and Plus have air flow control and can be opened fully or remove the control screw in needed for maximum air.
Lite is non-adjustable.

hmm.........wide open @ 2.2ohms. Maybe to open and not carrying enough e-liquid. This would be Dry(harsh) air issue.
Turn in a little and try a few pulls. increase in increments taking several draws between adjustments. You may find adding more liquid flow is all that is needed.
Back out a touch if it starts to gurgle/flood.

Good luck.
