Sounds like the tails are too long and getting caught in the threads. and your assembly tweak fixed that.


dry hits usually mean wick blocking the channels.
The cotton wick wouldn't get caught its just that when I moved it at all when it was wet to tuck it away so the chimney could go down it would kink just enough to leave a small gap in the coil giving a slight metallic taste were coil would get hot. That's just a theory anyway. So now I cut it just long enough when I push the chimney down it stays just above the channel staying nice and plush once tight I adjust it just a bit centering over hole then pre wet the wick. I had tons of issues before that and no problems since.
