Its very easy actually. I just did my first on a cheapy full size kayfun i bought, one channel was completely choked by the colar, only one channel was even open lol. Just drill the original channel a little deeper/wider try it out and go from there, a little at a time.
The kayfun mini's dont have enough clearance between the wall of the tank and the collar of the wick/wire housing. Even if you drill the channels i'm wondering if you will still have issues...i did read the pmma tanks give an extra mm of clearance though so keep trying, good luck! The only reason i know is because i wanted one so i researched it.

Well, no more dry hits yet. Out of curiosity if over did the channel deepening would it cause problems.?

It might make it flood and leak. My Kayfun mini leaks and I didnt drill out the juice channels. I have to add a bit more wick to mine to help with that issue.

If your cotton gets pulled away from the juice channel(s) you could increase the chance of flooding the chimney, but you sound like you're well past that newb stage. I'm betting you won't have any leaks. Try taking 4 or 5 hits from it and laying it on its side for 5-10 minutes. If nothing comes out of the air holes, you're good.

It looks like holes/notches in the bottom of the chimney section are very small also, would it be worth opening them up? I've done any modding yet.

Are you talking about the horizontal juice channels on the lower deck that lead toward the chimney? If so, I'd deepen those too where it matters most, which is the portion closest to the chimney.

I've open both the vertical and horizontal channels and things definitly seem better. I have noticed that when I vape an air bubble or comes comes from the channel, normal I think, but no matter how full the tank is it only rises slowly to the top of the clear section and sticks there for ages sometimes gets past that and I suppose goes to the top but mostly just sticks there.
I will try playing with the air screw. I am using the supplied drip tip what difference would a larger bore drip tip make.

Well I've just fitted a slightly larger bore drip tip and refitted the air screw and closed it down to nearly 1 full turn out and flavoured a definitly improved. Slightly tighter to draw on but better flavour so I'm happy there. The air trapping at the side still happening but not causing a problem yet.
