my chargers are all full of charged batteries and have been for a long time, is that bad?

I would say depends on your charger. If its shutting off and not charging them past the cut off voltage your fine. For most of my IMR's thats 4.2v Could let them sit for awhile after charging and take a meter to them to make sure they are still at that voltage.

I never leave the house with batteries in a charger. I never leave batts in a charger overnight. That includes cell phones, laptops, cordless phones or power tools. It's just one risk I can very easily eliminate from my life with almost no effort from me.
