KFL lite plus weird flavor

Hi guys, I can't seem to be able to create a thread on any other section than this one.

I received my kayfun lite+ (2014) yesterday from pink mule, built a 2.5ohm coil with 0.25mm kanthal (Im on an MVP2) and put on a bit of VCV caramel tobacco, it tasted ok, absurd amounts of vapor.

I decided then during the evening to change to a vanilla custard, dry burned the coil, made sure it was clean and re-wicked, the flavor was, just weird... really weird, when I exhale through my nose I could taste this very very weird "eggyness" but in a pretty weird and bad way, like, oily or something... not sure. Now it could be the machinery oil but I cleaned the whole tank twice on hot hot water and let it sit on that water for an hour then dried it all up. When I changed to the custard I did the same, I did the same today and just tried on a juice that I already know the flavor, Halo Tribecca in order to pinpoint if it's the juices fault or the tank/my fault. I just did that a few minutes ago, put on a new coil as well, when I exhale through the nose, same thing..... What could be causing this? My protank mini 3 tastes much much better Sad

Also, it seems that the kayfun is ruining my connection because I can't tighten that big bottom screw any further since it will move the whole building section

Did you use detergent when you cleaned in hot water? When I got mine I found that just hot water did not remove the yuk from the mfg process. I had to do several cleanings and brushed with an old toothbrush in hot soapy water -- the atomizer that is. Used Dawn because that cuts grease well. I also did a cleaning in isopropyl alcohol. Hope this helps a little....

Welcome to the forums, you need 5 posts to post outside the new member section.

Regarding the KFL I found there is a little machine oil left over after the machining process that you need to clean off really well with hot water and something like above to get it clean.

Try a micro coil at 1.8 and cotton to get more awesomeness from the KFL.

Thanks for the prompt replies guys!

I'm gonna buy some isopropyl alcohol and try to clean it that way, it very much feels like it could be that left over oil. When cleaning with alcohol do you just dive in all pieces in there? Do you also remove all screws from the rebuildable base? Including the 510 connector?

Hi there,

I've posted on this previously, but every once in a while, a kayfun seems to get by quality control with gobs of machine oil still in it. One of my kayfuns simply would *not* come clean -- used everything imaginable on it -- detergent, alcohol, simple green, boiling, brushing, etc. There are so many threads, nooks and crannies in the kayfun that I just couldn't get rid of the foul oil taste. The thing that finally saved the day was an ultrasonic cleaner loaded with 1/2 simple green , 1/2 water -- followed by dawn / water and then distilled water for the final bath. And sure enough, I did see little beads of oil rise to the top of the water.

Alls well that ends well. The cleaner I bought (amazon) was pretty cheap (~30 bucks or so?) -- and I now use it all the time for cleaning up my atties.

I'd say, by all means, try boiling and all the other methods listed above first. Mechanical action (toothbrush and washcloth) is really important, too. But if all that fails, get an ultrasonic.

Good luck!

Steve.

Use Dawn to clean it. Get a big bowl, fill it with water, and mix in some Dawn liquid detergent. Let the parts just sit and soak in it for an hour or so. Then, come back and scrub it down really well with the Dawn solution and a microfiber cloth. Rinse it off and give it a second scrub down with just clean water and a clean microfiber cloth. One final rinse in very hot water and it should be clean.

Dawn will clean the oils off of just about anything. It will also strip waxes and sealants off your car and cause oxidation of the clearcoat, so never use it to wash your car.

When you get the isopropyl, see if you can the 99% rather than 70...... will give you a little edge so to speak. If you do use the "iso", make sure to thoroughly clean of off of your device before using. Don't want to take any of that into your body.

Yes, of course but the thing is, do you remove all the screws in the rebuildable table as well as the 510 connector in order to thoroughly clean everything? Should I remove the o-rings as well?

You can't go wrong cleaning it COMPLETELY disassembled. I boiled mine in a vodka (I had it handy) and water 50/50 mix, and then washed with hot, soapy water (Dawn). After that, I boiled it again in distilled water, and it was fine. You'll get it, and when you do - oh BOY!!!! :)

Yes.... cover your bases and completely tear it down. Probably only have to do this once to get the machining oils off. Be careful with all those really little, little parts. I found a hand held kitchen strainer (don't tell my wife) really works well or one of those screen strainers for the sink drain. I managed to lose the bottom insulator on my Russian when I was first cleaning it and luckily the local shop was willing to sell me one or I would have been crying in my beer or e-juice...lol.

haha thanks a lot for the replies guys! Can I actually just chuck everything in a pan and just boil it after I wash it with detergent?! Will everything be fine? With all of the o-rings removed as well. Should I remove the little plastic or whatever bit that is under the building table? That insulator thing

I think I may have fixed it! Washed and scrubbed in hot water with Fairy detergent then proceeded to boil for 20 minutes. Put on a shiny new 2ohm micro coil and it's vaping like a beast! I did put a menthol'ish tobacco in there as to not have any vanilla or custardy liquids in there so I know my mind wouldn't be playing tricks on me :)

I am not tasting that foul egg like flavor at the moment, hopefully it did go away for good!

Thanks for all the help guys. Doing all that heavy cleaning helped.

I do have another issue though that I raised in my original post.

The Kayfun is obliterating my MVP's connection, I'm actually a bit scared because it's removing the coating because I can't screw the main 510 screw connector further in as it moves the build.

You can see what I mean in the pictures I attached as well as how a Q tip looks when I clean the connection in my MVP.

I don't own a MVP but want to make sure I understand what you mean.... the 510 conn has a coating on it that is rubbing off on the base of the Kayfun? I also do not understand what you meant about "move the build". Can you elaborate? I'm sure someone will jump in or perhaps you could start a new thread in a section where more MVP owners might see it. Sorry -- I know this was not much help.
