Hi Guys and Gals,

Just looking for some help here... I have had the kick for about a week now and loved it while it worked. I am using it on a Reo Grand... It was working great until this morning, when I changed the battery... Poof... Nothing happens. I tried all sort of things, including connecting a wire from the bottom spring of the Reo to the spring on the kick in case the body was not making contact. I changed the battery... I moved it around... Changed the atty... EVERYTHING and could not get it to work. I tried the Reo witha regular 18650, and it works like a champ... So something is up with my kick... I do not know what it is.

Is there ANYWAY I can test it.. Like can I test resistance at certain points or something to find out if it is busted...

Thanks !

My best guess would be:

Continuity test
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

In electronics, a continuity test is the checking of an electric circuit to see if current flows (that it is in fact a complete circuit). A continuity test is performed by placing a small voltage (wired in series with an LED or noise-producing component such as a piezoelectric speaker) across the chosen path. If electron flow is inhibited by broken conductors, damaged components, or excessive resistance, the circuit is "open".

devices that can be used to perform continuity tests include multimeters which measure current and specialized continuity testers which are cheaper, more basic devices, generally with a simple light bulb that lights up when current flows.

An important application is the continuity test of a bundle of wires so as to find the two ends belonging to a particular one of these wires; there will be a negligible resistance between the "right" ends, and only between the "right" ends.

and start there. I don't have one but this would be where I would start in your position. I read that the kick limits voltage when there is no load but it does for a brief second to test for a load. So if you use for example a small battery in series with a resistor and led if should if briefly light up. I might be wrong in this completely but nothing comes to mind without me actually owning one to test.

I tried that... The resistance between the bottom (postive contact) and the top is 0 to very small.... but not sure what else to test.. I tried moving the setting as well... Nothing... Atty is a 306 1.8 Ohm... so should be fine for the kick..

you don't by chance have another 18650 mod you can try it in to see if it works in there? Many problems have to do with the ground spring, so maybe trying it in another steel/aluminum mod may shed some light.

I had the exact same thing happen with my Grand. I sent it back to Evolve and I am assured great support from them. I have heard many great stories about there service for the Darwin. I have never had to send mine back but I have heard friends of mine are amazed with them. They will fix you up. I think the grand is the best application for the kick. Now we just need a square one!

Tried it on a tube mod... Same problem... When it is in the mod, I hear this ticking coming from it. As soon as I press the button, the ticking gets a lot faster... but does not fire any atty... So my guess is it stopped working... UGGGG. Sent evolv (thanks for the note Dave) an email asking for assistance yesterday morning.. Have not received a response yet... We shall see.

To isolate problems, run whatever brand unit you own without the Kick to verify your unit is working fine without it. If you then put the kick in and it starts misfiring, its a good bet the Kicks contacts are in need of cleaning.

They Kicks contacts are made of brass, and will oxidize rapidly. Clean both the top and bottom and the side ground. You may want to apply a dab of a petroleum based anti oxidant like, noalox, vaseline, deoxit gold etc. too after cleaning.

I hope that in the Future Evolv will perhpas plate the contacts with Nickel or the like to fight corrosion.

Thanks Dave.. I did everything you mentioned.. still did not work.. just kept ticking.. I bought another Kick from the classies, and this one is perfect.. no ticking.. nothing ..

I've had a few that said they same thing, it was Ticking like you mention. Did you contact Evolv to get a warranty replacement?

Mine was working, but intermittent, I could tell there was a slight bit of slack in the battery and Kick. I switched from one large to two small orings and now have slight resistance the last quarter turn or so when tightening the cap. Before I had no resistance. Seems to be working better, time will tell.
