Kits and Cartomizers

Ive been trying to do my research before purchasing a kit, a lot of them seem to come with cartomizers rather than cartridges.
Can cartomizers be refilled and is there a pro and con to using them rather than the cartridges?

A cartomizer is basically a hybrid between an atomizer and a cartridge. They contain a filler material AND the heating source. a much BETTER option over the cartridge in my opinion.
A kit that includes cartomizers is a great starting point.
