Koh Gen Do has arrived... comparison with Rayon

Ok, KGD arrived today, and to recap:
- Organic Cotton tastes like "wet T-shirt"
- In "not so strong flavors" Rayon tastes like "smoked wood" or "roasted nuts"

So it's KGD turn... I'm testing it with "Pocono / Mystery Flavor" which is a very light vanilla / custard. This particular flavor is unvapeable for me using cotton / rayon.

The best I can come up with is that KGD tastes like "slight rubber + plastic"...

I'm using a 1.4ohm build on a KFL. Below 13w (4.3v) the rubber taste is unnoticeable and starts to build up with increased wattage. For me, cotton tastes right away and rayon start tasting at 11w.

I use 3 ADV on Aspire BVC 1.6ohm coils, which I vape at:
- Halo / Malibu: 11w
- Pocono / Mistery Falvor: 14w
- VapeTrik / AWOL: 13w

I guess if I had to pick the lesser of 3 evils... that will be KGD for me.

Just sharing, hope this helps somebody.

I've tried all 3 too. Here are my results:
Cotton - tasted my juice
Rayon - tasted my juice
KGD - tasted my juice

Cotton came in last in endurance, then KGD. Rayon outlasted the others. Rayon and KGD wicked better than cotton.
I felt safer vaping with cotton, then KGD....With Rayon, I convinced myself I would develop a humongous tumor. That fear was based on things posted by people who know even less about rayon than I do.
I've settled on rayon and the tumor.

It would be interesting to run a blind "taste test" of the various wicking materials... Just to see how the results get skewed! Thanks for posting!

That would be interesting! I have a 3 KFLs, but sadly I don't have 3 repeated mods :(

However, if I were able to do the blind test, I'm pretty sure I'll be something like this:
a) if I start puking right away it was cotton
b) if running to get water and wash my mouth it was Rayon
c) if no visible physical effect, then up the wattage and:
1) if I have a sad face it was the KGD
2) if I have a happy face then someone, somehow, put a BVC coil inside a KFL

I've found that for different flavors I use different wicks. For RY4 / Tobacco's (which are rare flavors I vape) I use Organic or KGD. For fruits, candies, etc I use Rayon. I agree that with some flavors you have to choose the wick that compliments the flavor.

I never get the burnt wood taste with Rayon since I wick heavy and it wicks extremely fast for me.

I am semi interested in seeing how much of each of these materials you put in your coils (and how you build them) fullyBoricua...

I fully understand the wet t-shirt taste from cotton, I used to get that when I went through my vivi nova phase and was making wicks with anything cotton, from cotton balls to cotton cheesecloth to old t-shirts. I would always have at least a hint of wet t-shirt taste in every puff.
I realised later on that it was to do with my coil making technique, I was strangling the cotton with the coil. I never had dry hits or anything like that, just that awful funky taste.

Now I use cotton balls and a different building technique and all is good.

I have not tried Rayon, the 'increased throat hit' people often state puts me right off.

DoubleEwe, I also second guessed my "wicking technique" a couple of times... But I don't think that's the problem. I havent tried many different setup with KGD since I just got it today, but I did my due diligence with cotton and Rayon, in short:
- I use little cotton
- I starting using 1.5x amount of Rayon (vs cotton), then moved to 2.0x and now I'm at almost 3.0x...

Here, some pics of a KFL I just opened

I like blending everything together

I stuff 2 mm Silica inside a 3mm eckowool the that gets rolled in Rayon which is then layed ontop of cotton and KGD and my coil.... its a 10mm dia micro :)

Im still looking for some natural Sea Sponge to try next

Smart@**!!
But funny... definitely made me laugh!! I think we both have the same jacked-up demented sense of humor!

That is a lot of wick material.
It would do 3 of my Kayfuns.

You sure you aren't tasting dry coil and burnt liquid?
