Hi all,

Earlier this week I received my brand new KR808d-1 (aka VaporKing). I was planning on using this to replace my SmokersSmartChoice #7 (aka rn4081).

While I thought that the KR808 was excellent in terms of vapor quantity, the flavor has been terrible.
I have contacted the vendor. They have been helpful. I have absolutely no complaints about Vapor4Life.

Let me repeat that: No complaints about customer service from my vendor.

I originally ordered 15 different flavors from Vapor4Life. I found one out of that bunch that wasn't great, but atleast not offensive like the other 14 flavors. (They all taste burnt to me.)

I have on order, 15 new flavors from Vapor4Life and 15 new flavors from Backwoods Brew. I am going to try different flavors to see if I can find one that's good to use in the KR808d-1.

My concern is this: What if it's not the flavors, but the cartomizers themselves that I can't tolerate?
Although the prefilled cartridges for my rn 4081 are pretty weak, they are not offensive to vape.
I literally can not use my brand new VaporKing because the burning plastic taste is too strong for me. It makes me feel sick.

I also understand that 9 out of 10 people would not taste or smell what I am tasting or smelling. I guess I'm just sensitive. Ironic since I was a smoker for 15 years, right?

Anyways...
Is there an atomizer for the KR808d-1 so that it will accept cartridges rather than cartomizers?
At this point, I'm into the KR808 for a whole lotta cash. I'd really like to use it rather than give it away.

Thanks. :)

You must have really bad luck with cartomizers, you should be ordering blanks really and filling them with your own juice, there are several ways to fill them. juice that has been sitting on cartomizers for a while can make them taste funny.

You're off to a good start anyway, the WOW and Coolcart cartomizers are the best revisions of the KR8 cartos on the market.

If you want to use atomizers you can use 901 atomizers without any adapters they will screw right on.

From the limited amount of information we have to base this on, I would assume you need to put more juice in your carto's before vaping them. The burnt taste is generally a clear indication that your filler is too dry. Sometimes you need to drip a few drops, let them soak in for a few, then rotate slightly and drip a few more drops, then repeat until your filler material is moist or until juice starts to seep out the bottom.

Give it a shot and report back.

Hi Newbz. Welcome to the forum.
I have an 808 also, in all 3 types, auto, manual, and pass-through.
Mine were purchased from Cigeasy.

I agree with the above, it sounds as though you need to saturate the cart a bit more with juice. I had burned one cart also here, and never want that to happen again.
You might also want to 'top off' your cart with a few drips during usage occasionally throughout the day.

All things said and done, although I still want to try a different setup, with no fillers to burn, but now that I have used the 808 a week, I am very pleased with it.

With the 808, I quit 42 years of smoking under two packs a day on my first day of a PV.
Hang in there. We all want you to succeed, and will help you find a way. :)

Try PureSmoker.com - USA Electronic Cigarettes & USA Made eLiquid!!! they have blank 808's for a good price, and they vape great. Another one I like is the ones that www.goodprophet.com sells. Been vaping on one of those for over a week now. I recognize the taste you are getting. Sometimes, I think the rubber end piece in the carto makes it taste that way after being stored for a while. Hope this helps out.

Remember that the 808 was designed to be a 2 piece E-Cig not a 3. I say this because my 3 manual batteries I have for mine are all UNSEALED. If your gonna swap to an atty becareful if you drip with it.

Stop doing the prefilled and grab some blanks and juice and fill your own. The 808's are awesome for the "Condom" method of filling, no hassle, little mess and quick.

I did order a couple of blanks. Filled one with over 30 drops of juice and still I can taste that plastic burning smell after a drag or two. I’ve been hesitant to try to fill another cartomizer and ruin them all. So far I have discarded 20 cartomizers in my efforts to find one that doesn’t taste burnt. I have yet to actually use my VaporKing to sit down and vape. I just test flavors, discard them, taste another, discard.

I actually gutted one of the cartomizers to see what the heck could be in there that tastes so bad. During the process of butchering the d@mn thing, there was so much juice that it was running all over my latex gloves. However, I did notice that even though I’d only taken 1 drag, the little wire on the inside of the cartomizer was showing oxidation and the wick had the most tiny little black/brown spot. When I took a whiff of it, that was the issue. I’m not sure anyone else would have ever tasted this. I had non smoking friends take drags from this specific cartomizer and they tasted nothing burnt.

Thanks tomus, and congrats on your success! I accidentally quit smoking the day I purchased my rn4081. No joke. I didn’t have a real plan to quit, just thought I’d try vaping out and see how it went. That was in October. Are the cartomizers at this retailer different in construction from the cartomizers at Vapor4Life? I’m really beginning to wonder if the problem isn’t the juices, but the way the cartomizers are built.

How do you get rid of that flavor? I boiled a bunch of the cartomizers to clean them out, but they still have that ‘taste’ to me. :(

Yup. That’s where I’m at. I have 4 blanks left and 65 prefilled cartomizers left. I have boiled a few in an attempt to clean them for refilling, but I may end up having to give the prefilled cartomizers away if I can’t get the smell and taste out of them. OTOH, if I can’t resolve this, I’ll end up giving to whole dang set up away. I literally can’t use my new VaporKing.

Bummer.

Maybe try getting a drip tip for your carto's as well. If they have the little rubber end pc, that may be the problem. Could be wrong on that one though. I prefer the drip tips on them anyhow. Much cooler on the lips.

Hate to sound like a dweeb, but I don't even know what that is, what it looks like, or how it works. ;)

I hope your blank cartomizers turn out better than the pre-filled. I too had a real problem with the pre-filled in my kr8, plus I paid too much for it (v2). Even so it brought me to this forum. I did get the Joye 510 and some e-juice from another vendor. I put that new juice in the kr8. It made for a much better experience. To me the kr8 is harsher and sometimes still got that 'burnt' taste. At least the battery lasts a little longer than the 510's. It's my backup, to my backup, since I just got an inferno and use it most.
I'm going to keep my kr8 and let the boyfriend use it when he returns. He's an avid smoker so the harsh/slightly burnt taste won't effect him at all. Anyone that can eat a chocolate bar and smoke an analog at the same time couldn't possibly notice that burnt sugar taste :)
So if it comes down to it and you can't tolerate it, maybe there is someone you can give it to as a gift?

It would be a heck of a gift. I've got hundreds wrapped up in this thing including extra batteries, spare chargers, passthroughs, cartomizers galore, tons of juices, carrying cases, and a big tool box that I keep it all in.

As much as I liked my rn4081, I thought I would love this.
Not so much, at this point.
Just gotta figure out how to make it work for me. *shrugs*

If you're really sensitive to the filler, you might want to look at the CE2 cartos, I believe they don't use classic filler, just a reservoir. The R4 (current shipping) ones are supposed to be pretty solid.

If when you inhale a fresh prefilled you hear a bunch of gurgling and popping, that's a sign of a really full carto.

For cleaning, if the ones you have have the rubber mouth tips, those pop out very easily with a paperclip or similar item. A rinse under a tap, and/or a soak in hot water should knock out any juice that is in them. Personally I soak them in isopropyl alcohol, followed by a thorough rinse, then dry them in the oven at about 200 - 250F for 40 minutes on a paper towel. They'll be hot when they come out -- let them cool down.

You might try a bit of USP Glycerin, available in drugstores (normally labeled Skin Protectant, and the ingredients should only list one item, USP glycerin 99.5% or higher, $4 - $6 for a 6 ounce bottle) thinned slightly with distilled water (grocery store), see if you still get the bad taste when you try vaping that. About 1 part distilled water to 4 parts glycerin. No nicotine, no flavorings, it'll tell you if you really are just ultra-sensitive to the filler.

When you fill your own cartos, after it's full blow through the mouthpiece with a tissue held over the battery end to get any excess liquid, then wipe the battery contact before putting it on a battery.

Good luck!

If the batteries are manuals and you really can not use the cartomizers, you could put a drop of epoxy down the center post of the battery to seal it. Then use a 901 atty to drip with (or use a cart). But once it is sealed you will not be able to use the cartomizers again. I know how you feel about tasting flavors that others don't. Sweet liquid makes me feel nauseous, tobaccos taste like hay, and coffees taste burnt. I found two flavors I like and that is it, unless I DIY. I seem to like subtle flavors.

Are you sure about that? I thought all manual batteries were sealed anyways. I use 808's on a sealed battery. Auto's need to be unsealed to activate the battery. 808's pull air from around the base of the carto on manual sealed batteries.

Newbz, if you are really sensitive to burnt filler you can try the E2r4 cartomizers. They don't have any filler. I get mine at:

Edition2 Revision4 Cartomizers

They have a good selection of R808 cartomizers and give you the ohms and manufacturer.

I like the XL 2.6 - 2.8 ohms on a R808 but it's worth trying different types as your tastes may be different. I also have a 510 adapter for the 808 and that gives me even more variety cartos that I can use. Another reason for the adapter is that sometimes I use an ego when away from home and I can use the 510 on both batteries. I generally prefer the R808 but the ego lasts longer.

The E2r4' are a bit more trouble to fill and you may want to ask about that if you get some. You can't drip into the carto to fill or use the condom method. You can still get a burnt taste from carbonized juice if you let the carto dry out too much while vaping but these cartos can be burnt clean if that happens. Almost Every battery, cartomizer and juice combination is going to be different as far as flavor, hit and smoke. All of this is still a bit of an art so experiment and don't get discouraged.
