Oxidizing will coat the mesh so it won't short; it will still be conductive enough to work fine though. It just won't short from touching the deck and such.
SS Mesh and SS cable are two different things, though both should be oxidized
I used 2.5mm cable. They are 2.8mm wick holes, and I used SS cable with mesh wrapped around the top; wasn't a fan at all. I'm going to try an ekowool top cover next, but I need to get some ekowool first and I have absolutely no way of ordering any for quite a while sadly
I was wondering about both, I have 3 and have been using silica wick and was wanting to try both mesh and cable. I bought a couple mech mods on ebay. and wanted to figure out how to build on ss. thanks.

I don't oxidize wire rope if it has a mesh sleeve. You only need insulation directly between wick and coil. Once you got that, the wick no longer gets access to the positive (center post) current, no matter how much it shorts on the negative path - i.e the deck. In other words - it's no longer electrified.

I would still oxidize it. If even the slightest bit of cable is touching the positive post, and it reaches the bottom of the tank which is metal, it will short. That is unlikely, but I have had E-liquid make the connection ffs. If there i liquid all over your positive and down your wick, it can complete the circuit and cause a short. Unlikely as it may be, I had issues with liquid causing the ohms to jump erratically when it was on my positive and saturating my wick

please stop spreading "bro-science", the addition of e-liquid will not change the ohms.
what you have on your hands is a crappy build. nothing more, nothing less.
so how long should the cable be? I have found some on ebay. I don't like cutting it with my wire cutters. Wire cutters are made to cut wire not cable. I hate to dull the tools I use for work.

Yep, cutting the SS rope without cable cutters is a pita so you should order some maybe if you plan to go this route. Using any other method like a hack saw will just fray the ends or dull your tools, I cook my rope over a gas burner not to oxidize it especially, but to remove any nasty's like machine oil, As said, it is usually covered with mesh or you can use eco wool sleeves if you have some, I don't so brush the cable on cotton to give it a thin furry coat!
The rope you get with the Kraken is kinda big and prefer to use 1.5mm which works better with my builds.
i dont think it has been mentioned, but some SS cable can be treated with an anti-corrosive coating of sorts.
avoid this at all costs, and find uncoated/treated cable.
you dont want to breathing that stuff.
as for cutting, a dremel and a cut-off wheel, does just fine
